Thanks for the welcome 3galeh and Cheryl :) I have a question about the SSC Instant Messenger and the SSC Quit Meter. When I try to install them on my computer, I'm directed to install .net framework, but even after installing the .net framework, the SSC meter and IM don't seem to want to install. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I realized I've posted 2 replies here, and I haven't even introduced myself yet! I am struggling with my nicotine addiction. I've been a smoker for 34 years and in the last couple of months I have made 5 attempts at quitting. Each time I fail I modify my quit technique because I will not give up until I succeed. I am using Wellbutrin and the nicotine inhaler at this time. I have had some fairly strong cravings, especially yesterday. A friend died suddenly yesterday morning (39 years old) which reminded me that we cannot predict the future. We should live each day like it is our last, because it may be our last. And of course, the nicotine addict in me said, "Yeah baby, smoke smoke smoke 'cause tomorrow you could get run over by a truck!" lol. I didn't smoke. I did that 5 minute thing... I looked at the clock and thought to myself that if I still wanted a cig in 5 mins, I would go get one. My husband walked in the room with a question about something, we started talking, I remembered I had wanted a cig, looked at the clock and 20 mins had passed and I no longer had the craving :) Each time I have worked the program a little harder. I am beginning to realize that the designers of these quit smoking programs may know a little more about quitting smoking successfully than I do lol. I am going to take the suggestions to heart, and start working them, like that little 5 minute thingy. That sure did work! So, thank you everyone for being here. I've spent most of this morning on this board reading the posts and right now, at this moment, I feel hopeful and very positive about my choice to quit. Thank you for that feeling. Hey wannabe. I'm really sorry about your friend :( Are you doing oK? Going 4 days without smoking in such a stressful time really speaks volumes about your determination. If you hold on to your positive attitude, keep taking the wellbutrin, and keep posting and reading this site, I think you are well on the road to one final quit :) Take care and welcome :) ...

Hi WannabeQuitter, Welcome, nice to meet ya. :) Firstly I want to say sorry for the loss of your friend. 39 is soo young to be taken from this wonderful planet Next I want to say good job on using the waiting for 5 min. technique. I have used it lots myself, and like you said, before you know it you have forgotten all about Ol' Stinky Stick. Good for you. The next thing you're doing right is reading the posts. Very useful for learning and passing the time. You have a good handle on what you need to do. Keep Strong, redrosie :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 84 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,028 Amount Saved: $697.2 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 5 Mins: 34 Seconds: 19

Dear Wannabe, You got the title right. That is what it really takes. To want to be an ex-smoker more that you wannabe a smoker. That is much easier for me to believe this time than it has been all the other times that I tried to quit and failed. It just takes saying each time that you really don't want that smoke bad enough to put up with all the effects that it will bring. People write books about all the bad effects of smoking.. You can read them if you want. Here you need to stay positive. I can..becomes your watch word. And like most things, the more you practice then the better you get at it. So congratulations on the decision, welcome aboard, make yourself at home and stay as long as you like. If you should need help, just shout out and someone will be along very soon to help you. Congratulations on a great decision to quit. Read and post here all you can it really helps. Reward yourself for milestones, you are worth it. Sorry about your loss, that is so sad, but at least you knew smoking would not help or change that stressor. Its not easy but its worth it!!
