Every once in awhile, even after six months, I take it into my head that just one would be ok.....I'm quit....not a problem. And then I remind myself that one could start the addiction all over again, I cannot be a social smoker, blah, blah, blah and when push comes to shove I go to whyquit.com AND the thought passes. As Lady said, I used to feel this way everyday and now it's just occasionally. I just won't smoke, Janet My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 214 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,294 Amount Saved: $1070 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 7 Mins: 40 Seconds: 9

Thank you for the support and wisdom my quit buddies. Here are my new mantras: 1.Better to be a non smoker with an occasional desire....hallellulja! 2.Smack the junky!!!! 3.We all have moments of crazy mind talk. Oh yes, Lady, that quote has been on my fridge a very long time and helped me thru all the above during my journey. LOL N2K....definitly the wandering mind. I was circling the nicodemon's playground. I had to go to the mall and buy a new sweater, go for a long walk and come home and take a long hot shower. Darth was whispering in my ear "you can have just one smoke now and then. Yeah right! The trigger? My life is like groundhog day right now....one day is just like yesterday and so it goes. You have got a fun way of mixing humor and wisdom. T/y for the laugh :) You are Colombo, I am Clouseau. It's true what you said earlier tho'. We know way too much to seriously consider taking up smoking again. For me there is a big difference between the junkie thinking and the reality of buying a pack....night and day. Maybe it was a brain breeze. Again, congrats on 6 huge months, Janet :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 214 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,299 Amount Saved: $1070 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 8 Mins: 28 Seconds: 40

Janet. I was feeling the same way last Sunday. I posted a thread that says "I do not smoke". Kind of puts it all in perspective. I'm just glad that now they are merely thoughts and not those kill me now craves! It's great being quit for so long. I was talking to someone earlier and we were talking about how we will probably always have "thoughts" of smoking from time to time. Even after 200+ days it's still a choice. Each day we choose not to smoke. Glad you are holding your own. I can't believe you remember when I use to say that. For you new people...early in my quit I had two sayings. 1. When I smoked, I wanted a cigarette all the time; now that I don't I only want one some of the time. AND 2. Every day is one day closer to never feeling this way again. Soon those fleeting thoughts will be so fleeting you won't even realize you thought about having "just one." You are doing great! Keep up the good quit. One more thing Janet........I have been smoke free for a little over 1 year and I still (just every once in a while) think....."A cig would taste good right now" (it's that crazy junkie thinking) It's not really a crave or a desire to smoke....its just a stupid thought... My husband has recently started smoking again and sometimes he lays his packs around....When I pass by and see them, it seems I am always taking a second look....(another junkie reaction) So lady is right, we all have our crazy thinking...but now we see it for what it really is...."Just crazy Thinking" Smoking is no longer an option!!!!!!!!!! Stay Strong, you are doing great! It's better to be a non smoker with an occastional desire for a cig than a smoker with a constant desire to quit...... Hang Tuff Janet....It will pass.....
