my heart is broken

I'm glad this turned out well - you handled it great. It's interesting family dynamic's - my parents were both chain smokers, my brother never smoked, I didn't start til I was 48, my ex never smoked - but both my kids started smoking around 16 years old. My son quit a year ago and my daughter is cutting down in advance of quitting. Hey Peanut, I know how you feel, everytime something happens to our children we want to blame ourselves. Your 15 year old son had a choice to make and he made the wrong one, but it's not too late. I'm also glad he is not home tonight, it will give you time to plan your talk with him. Don't give into those cigs and you are right they will continue to call you all night, put some ear plugs in. I know that you won't smoke. Also know that alot of people are thinking of you. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Peanut, I am so, so sorry to hear that. I really don't know the words to say as I couldn't imagine finding out that my teenagers had started smoking. First of all, DON'T blame yourself. He was around, he knows the impact smoking had on you and the struggles you have had during your quit. He's just in that typical teenage state of mind..."it won't hurt me to try, I can stop anytime." Be there for him and offer all the support you can so he can get through what will hopefully be an easy quit. Stay strong.....now for the both of you. Hey peanut.. So sorry to hear that. Heartbroken is it exactly ! But one good thing.. you know in time to stop him before he goes any further. I am so tempted to tell you what I would do and how and all of that.. but I won't.. I will say this..if I might.. Do not let him compare himself to you.. He is still a kid and you are an adult. You have certainly told him not to smoke a million times... You can help him.. you know how to quit.. If he were mine.. he'd think I was his shadow... The Mom in me is flowing now... I am upset for you.. don't think I ever wrote to you before even. ((((peanut)))) Hang Tuff.. you can handle this.. What a great ending! How great that your son did not turn around and stomp out of the room!! (going back to my past....) On your question to tell the other moms- a good question! I think I would let it go because peer pressure is so awful that it might alienate your son from the other boys. He was good enough to be straight with you when you confronted him that I think I would let the other parents handle it on their own. Cig smell is so strong that probably many of them already know it!! old SILVER My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 184 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,530 Amount Saved: $1196 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 15 Mins: 33 Seconds: 42

Oh Peanut... Maybe it is a good thing your son won't be back until tomorrow. This will give you a chance to figure out how to deal with the situation and be rational instead of angry. Don't blame yourself. You woke up and smelled the coffee. You and your husband have shown your boys that smoking is not good for you because you both quit. You have lead by example...the quitting example. Every last one of us on this site have been victums to the horrors of smoking. We have all done things for the addiction that we are not proud of. We can't change yesterday but you can influence your son and educate him on the poweful affects of this horrible addiction. Those two packs are calling your name all right. They are saying come and drown us...we kill..get rid of us quick...tear us up..flush us...before we can hurt anyone else. I know you won't smoke. You are forever a Smober. ((((Hugs)))) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 260 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,216 Amount Saved: $910 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 23 Mins: 36 Seconds: 39

Thank you all for your responses. I waited till my son got home on Sunday and my husband and I confronted him. His response was alright you caught me & yes I did smoke 2 of them last weekend. My response that there is 10 pkgs in a carton and there are only 2 left and where did you get them? He said last weekend when of his lacrosse team was over and they were playing in the field his friend took them out of his gym bag and gave each boy a pkg (the carton was his fathers). When it was time for the boys to go home my, sons friend gave him an extra pack. He smoked 2 of them 1 that weekend and 1 Friday night in the woods. I cried and he showed him some pictures fro whyquit and he said dont worry mom I did not like it anyway. I hope that is so, he is very active in sports and was one of states all star players for lacrosse all I can do is hope and pray he never picks another one up. One thing I will never do is smoke again and I know it for sure in my heart cause if I do that would be like telling my boys go ahead its ok. So all of you with young children quit now b4 they think it is ok. My heart is broken. I do not usually post on weekends due to busy schedule I have two teenage sons who play almost every sport there is but today we had off. You see I was hanging clothes up in my 15 year olds room and I kept getting a whiff of cigs (we have never smoked in our home) wellI started to look thru shoe boxes and what did I find a carton box with 2 pkgs of cigs!!!!!!I am so upset and do blame myself so much. Wish I would have quit when they were young. Well anyway he is away tonight and I have to wait till morning to talk to him. The bad things is those 2 pkgs of cigs are calling my name but I will not smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :gasp: My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 291 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,835 Amount Saved: $1309.5 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 0 Mins: 18 Seconds: 18
