Hi, Stoppin'. Congratulations on being quit 6 days. Almost through hell week. :)
I think the biggest problem is your attitude toward not smoking anymore.
"I gonna try again too!" TRY? Don't try, DO IT! You cannot go into a quit with the attitude that you might fail. If you do, you will fail. N2k's favorite quote is by Henry Ford: "Whether you think you can or you think you cannot, you are right." "Try" leaves you a very easy out. Do not allow yourself that bolthole.
The "awful thoughts" that creep in are junkie thinking. Everyone here has experienced it. It's nothing more than your poor addicted brain wanting it's nicotine fix. These thoughts cannot make you do something you don't want to do, nor can they cause you any form of damage.
There will always be upcoming events or other reasons to postpone quitting. Again, that's your poor addicted brain making sure it doesn't lose its nicotine. Want a good example? Next time you need to go somewhere, try waiting until all the traffic lights are green. See how far you get.
Six days into your quit, unless you're on NRT, all the nicotine is out of your system. If you slip now all you will do is reawaken the addiction process and all this may start over. You really don't want that to happen, do you?
Don't panic. Don't even think about next week. And for sure don't go out drinking until your quit is solid and stable. What on earth is more important than quitting an activity that will kill you slowly and painfully? Focus on now, focus on maintaining your quit. That's the most important thing.
This isn't an easy journey, Stoppin', but it can be done if you really want to do it. Stay close, read, post, let us know how we can help.
