Hi Stoppin' Maybe the best thing you can do for your quit is not to think about 3 weeks from now or even tomorrow just your quit for right now this minute, hour, or day. Be positive with yourself "you can do this" and there are lots of people waiting here to help you. You have made a good choice in quiting stay close amazing things happen here ;) Polly My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 826 Amount Saved: $111 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 23 Mins: 29 Seconds: 36

Hi Stoppin' You have had some great advice here so I will not repeat it. What you have identified however is the greatest problem for us addicts....FEAR. Fear of being without our little friend, fear that the social occasions will be unbearable without our drug. Trust me, they are not. Don't light up. brent My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/8/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 389 Amount Saved: 275 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 6 Mins: 39 Seconds: 54

I am here for round 2 as well. However, I didn't make it this long last time without throwing in the towel. This morning really stunk but I feel better this afternoon. I have these awful thoughts creeping in about events that are coming up this month and next month that I have always "drank & smoked" at. What am I gonna do? Will it help that I will be like 3 weeks into this by then? I am panicking already. Hi, Stoppin'. Congratulations on being quit 6 days. Almost through hell week. :) I think the biggest problem is your attitude toward not smoking anymore. "I gonna try again too!" TRY? Don't try, DO IT! You cannot go into a quit with the attitude that you might fail. If you do, you will fail. N2k's favorite quote is by Henry Ford: "Whether you think you can or you think you cannot, you are right." "Try" leaves you a very easy out. Do not allow yourself that bolthole. The "awful thoughts" that creep in are junkie thinking. Everyone here has experienced it. It's nothing more than your poor addicted brain wanting it's nicotine fix. These thoughts cannot make you do something you don't want to do, nor can they cause you any form of damage. There will always be upcoming events or other reasons to postpone quitting. Again, that's your poor addicted brain making sure it doesn't lose its nicotine. Want a good example? Next time you need to go somewhere, try waiting until all the traffic lights are green. See how far you get. Six days into your quit, unless you're on NRT, all the nicotine is out of your system. If you slip now all you will do is reawaken the addiction process and all this may start over. You really don't want that to happen, do you? Don't panic. Don't even think about next week. And for sure don't go out drinking until your quit is solid and stable. What on earth is more important than quitting an activity that will kill you slowly and painfully? Focus on now, focus on maintaining your quit. That's the most important thing. This isn't an easy journey, Stoppin', but it can be done if you really want to do it. Stay close, read, post, let us know how we can help.
