slipped and get motivated

You guys are so good. Getting back again so quickly. Every time I slip it takes me weeks to get motivated again, even though I decide to every day. I feel strong at night, and become fearful in the morning. I take that cigarette filled with guilt and dread. My car smells, my house smell, I can't breath and I hate it. The problem is...I also love it. I really love smoking...just hate what it does to me. Can't even date because men don't want a smoking lady, and rightly so...... So, how do you do it....????? HELP!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I guess its time for me to respond. Its been difficult for me to read what some of you wrote. I guess I thought I would be coddled. And I'm glad I wasnt. Wow! You are all right. I have been trying to come to terms with the fact that I am an addict!!!! I thought a lot about my statement, which was a statement made out of panic. I asked myself, "do I really love smoking?" The answer was that its not the smoking I love, but what I think it does for me. The illusion that I have come to believe...that it really helps me to survive, that its my lifeline. That is an addict talking, as many of you have pointed out. No less than a junky, indeed. And of course I know its not true because I quit once before for six years. I was fine without it, I lived, and lived well. Its not that I don't see how awful it is, how smelly it is, how disgusting an addiction it is. I hold that reality along with the illusion. Otherwise I woudnt even be on this site or wanting to quit. I've quit three times in the past 6 months, each time falling back into denial. So, I thank you all for your frank and honest comments, the tough love. My quit date is next Thurseday and I plan to prepare for it with all my might. In fact, if its ok with all of you I would like to check in daily with my progress. This will keep me accountable. And next time I quit its "not one puff ever" forever.... I decided I want to quit for myself and my kids. The though of the money I would save, Everytime I go in a shop, I never take enough to buy anything other than I need. That way I don't have money for fags even if I want one. I wish to see my boys grow up and I have another on the way. You can quit to Good luck, 2 days down for me many more to go Lesley

My health. I hated feeling anxious all of the time. Every time I went to the doctor and he took my blood pressure, anxious about the horrible cough I was developing (i was starting to sound like my mother when she coughs, and I SWORE I wouldn't let that happen). Then, my mom's health started going downhill fast due to smoking (she's 61) and after seeing what 40+ years of inhaling garbage will do, I decided that's it. It's an addiction............as surely as if you were plunging the needle into your arm having stolen the money from a family member to buy the drugs! You do it by getting a grip and realising what you are dealing with. You do it by reading, researching and coming to terms with the fact that you are an addict. You do it by not wanting to smoke more than you want to smoke. It's not you talking....its the junky. It's not easy, I know that from personal experiencebut I coped by understanding....and I mean undestanding what I was dealing with. So come on! Shall we try properly? Hi healthystar, One thing that Allen Carr wrote about that applise when quitting any addiction is this. The Benfits of Quitting the Addiction must outweight the Consequences of Staying with the addiction. It makes sense. Right? SO you have to look at the Benefits as being superior to continuing. IT's in the mind. It's a brainwashing. For me, This is a horrible story, but true: My Benefits to Quitting was "Marriage"- I was going to be married and that was the condition of marriage- guess what? It still took me 9 months to prepare. Why? Because I had to internalize my benefits and they had to be about me- not him> Within my first month of my Solid Quit, he dumped me. This did not make me pick up again. My focus was on the Quit at this point. At this Point, I wanted fresh breath, nice smelling clothes, clean, healthy pink lungs, more than I wanted to continue to smoke.
