my best friend quit 3/1/06....she comes here and reads everything she can...but doesn't post. i decided i would do the same. until today when i started getting sick to my stomach at the thought of monday rolling around. i know i should be looking at it as a positive step and be anxious for the "great adventure" to start. but a dread that weighs about a ton is living in my gut~~~ and i don't know how to remove it. *sigh*

Jo, Yes, they all are correct, jump right it, start now (you will NOT be sorry) and you won't be anxious about the quit. We're here to back you up. I know I'm sorry I didn't quit sooner. I am lucky to have had the SSC when I started my quit - others did not find out about it until after many quit attempts. It's you're lucky day, go for it!!! Hugs and Cheers to Jo -- CobenFan (Christine)

Hi Joluvshugs - Oh - I just got it! Well I am sending some hugs your way today. I think that we are all nervous when we start - Can I do this? Will I do this? Am I going to be a bear?? We have all these questions rolling around in our heads and until we quit we have no answers. So Let's Get Started on finding out the answers! Have you started the Quit Program Tools on the left hand side of the SSC website? Have you been to the grocery store and stocked up on straws (wonderful when cut in half to suck through), my personal favorite - Twizzlers, hard sugarfree candy or any other aid that you might need. You need to remember to drink plenty of water - I don't know how it works to cut the craving - but it does. Are you going to use the patch? Gum? or cold turkey? (For some reason I don't like that name - it sounds so uninviting - so I will call it warm turkey! LOL!) or some other non-smoking aid. Many of us here use the aids - they work!! Anyway - I'm rambling - but welcome here and I can wait to see your quit meter rolling up the days! Hey Jolu, Welcome to SSC, We are so happy to have you join us. Making the decision is the biggest thing. Now you just have to hop in here and do it. Yes, it is scary and it is tough going for awhile, but it does get better, and you can do this...Just look around on the site and look at the days not smoked. Your friend is really doing fantastic, she has 73 days. Have you been reading along with her? This would be nice for the both of you, you would have a quitting buddy right there with you and you could help each other. I wish she would come and join us. To remove that dread that weighs a ton in you gut, you just stop smoking....It's that simple... I look forward to you post on Monday..Just keep saying to yourself I CAN DO THIS!!! And before long those days will start to add up. Stay strong and make Monday your quit for a life time.... Hello! Way to go on your decision to quit! Life is great without cigarettes in some many ways! Don't dwell on Monday. I just "spur of the moment" quit because until that time, the thought of quitting just overwhelmed me! It worked for me, every think of quitting tonight?? =) No better time then now! And it doesnt give you time to think on it now does it?? Monday you will be 3 days smokefree and that is incredible!! If you do wait untill Monday, don't let this eat at you all weekend. It is a horrible addiction to beat! I am 3 mos quit today and just last week I was craving one! You have to be strong to do this and believe in your self. Have a positive attitude, you had the courage to set a date and thats the first step! Stick around here, this place is incredible! I sound like a spokesperson for the ssc when I am around others. I give out this web address almost daily!! They really rock in here! Hi Jolu, awwwwww - I know exactly how you are feeling, I felt the same myself. In a funny sort of way it was actually a relief to start my quit because I felt so nervous before hand. The most important thing is to make sure you are prepared, read as much as you can andmake sure you have a plan on how to cope with the craves etc. Come here often and please post, you will get loads of support and advice. I will be watching out for you on Monday. Prepare to do battle because that is what it is. Take advantage of the first few days when your commitment is strong. Remember your commitment when demon nicotine starts to scream and whisper to you. You can do it. Jolu.. The anxiety of quitting really made sick as well. It takes a lot of courage to quit. There is always the factor of the unknown that comes into play as well. If you are like the rest of us, you have probably smoked for as long as you can remember. There is a tread in the general discussion forum called "The Courage to Quit". I think it may help you to read how some of the other members experienced the same anxieties. I will bump it for you (btw, to bump means to reply to a thread and then it "bumps" it to the top of the forum). Congratulations on your decision to quit! You will not regret it.
