Dear Tojo I love the way you described yuor freedom. Yes, it is hard to watch someone be sick, disabled or die from smoking. For me all those encounters are what inspire me to keep going. Way to go Tojo! Keep quit and stay strong! ohhh ps WELCOME TO THE BEACH!! on 107 days - fantastic Cuddles It's better to be a non-smoker with an occasional desire for a cig than a smoker with a constant desire to quit...... Hello everyone, I went to my work's awards banquet Friday, it was such a great feeling that I was not a prisoner and could sit and chit chat and not worry about getting a fix. When I was leaving I ran into an worker I had worked with 20 years ago. I knew he had had a heart attack about 10 years ago and quit smoking, then I knew he went back smoking after they fixed his heart, I remember him saying, I just can't give up smoking. Well he had a stroke 3 weeks ago, has to get an early retirement and spent many months in rehab to walk, and talk again. He said I have to retire now. I could see the pain in his eyes. His work was his life. He struggled to talk to me and I kept thinking, if only he had not gone back to smoking, maybe he wouldn't have had a stroke. It reaffirmed my need to continue to be a nonsmoker. I left feeling sorry for him, but feeling good about my decision to quit. Each and every day is a challenge, some better than others. I know I am an inspiration for my husband, and I feel he too will quit soon. One can only quit when they are ready, but I feel knowledge of the addiction will help overcome the desire to smoke. One day the tobacco company will be in ruins, but not in my lifetime.
