Thanks for all the posts and encourgement. i knew I would find it here again. When I finally said enough I couldn't wait to get online and commit to this great group of people. I spelled what I have wrong, it is monoclonal gammopathy, a form of neuropathy. Just in case any one tried to look it up. About 20% of people with it also have Multiple Myeloma, which is fatal. That is what I was so afraid of. I don't have it so can live with this just fine. End of first day and am doing fine. I was so lucky the first time and did not have a lot of problems the first week. Mostly some cravings, problems sleeping. We went to a large social function today and I was so happy I did not have to find a hiding place outside to smoke. I swear, it seemed like I was the only person who smoked when we would go somewhere. And then the breath sprays, mints, etc. that didn't fool anyone. When i quit before I could really smell people who smoked and it shocked me that I smelled like that and did'nt even know. Will be here every day to keep on track. Thanks guys, you are all great. I have put on the patch, tried to stiffen up my backbone, talked to myself day and night, and am ready to kick a--, my own. I will restart my quit meter, it makes me sick to see how long I would have been quit if I hadn't fallen on my face. The doctor business just sent me in a tail spin, and I fell off the wagon. OF COURSE, it hasn't helped me one bit except pilled on the guilt, cost me a lot of money, lost face with family and friends, caused a lot of self discust, etc., etc.,. I am even sick of smoking. Two or three puffs and I put it out. I am ready to end this sick habit for the rest of my life. I saw about 7 drs. and the final diagnosis is a form of neuropothy called Momoclonal Gammopathy, that will require me to have monthly infusions of human immunogloblin to keep it in check. It is a form that affects the feet, arms and hands, causing numbness, tiredness, nerve flashes, feeling of coldness, bad balance and falling. I had my first treatment 2 weeks ago and it really helped. About half of the systems improved, especially my balance and the sense of coldness. I think I will have to do this the rest of my life but after all the fear I had during the testing, the bone marrow test was the worst, I feel lucky to have a condition that is treatable. They did find some lymphoma cells in my bone marrow, but several doctors said the usual way it is handled to a wait and see. It could never cause a problem. As the doctor said, I could have died at 90 of something else and noone would have even known i had it. It is not uncommon in us seniors. They will keep me coming every 3 months to the cancer clinic, and every month to the neurologists. Everyone has to make their money. Thank God i go on Medicare 4-1 this year. No more co-pays. I see so many neubies, it is wonderful. I guess I will be a newbie now. My daughter, DFWGal is still quit. She will be thrilled to read this. I just made up my mind tonight and haven't told anyone yet. I know I can do this. i was over 100 days and doing great. I will always have to be on guard against lifes chalanges. The first one to come along knocked me off the wagon. Next time I will get online and work through it with my friends here. Wish me luck. I really want this for myself and my family.

Hi Helen and welcome back. I think of you often and just knew that eventually we would see you back again. You've got what it takes to quit. You have tasted the freedom of not smoking. I don't think you could ever be comfortable as a smoker again. Thank God for miracles. You know the drill. Kick, scream, cry, post, read and post some more. And lots of deep breathes. Just don't smoke. We are here for you. I know DFW will be so proud of you. Can't wait to put that tiera back on your head. :) Be sure to tell DFW that we all say hello and to come visit. Chin up, best foot forward......here we go....(btw, all the negative stuff ends now!) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 218 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,368 Amount Saved: $763 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 6 Mins: 0 Seconds: 3

Hi, texomagal. Welcome back! We've missed you. :) I've never heard of Momoclonal Gammopathy, but I'm glad it's treatable. OK, hop back on the wagon. You've done this before, you know what to do. Shed the guilt, regain your face, and start saving money again. ;) And tell DFWGal to drop in from time to time.
