patches or not

author1, Great question. While many people believe the patch is a great help when quitting smoking, there are others who will oppose. Your best bet is to discuss this with your family doctor, he/she will assist you with what NRT would be best for you. Stay Strong, Melanie _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Thanks everyone for your views. The only reason I considered it was to have a backup in case I couldn't resist the urge to buy smoks. But since the idea was born, I have thought how silly it would be to introduce all that nicotine back into my system. Really a crazy thought. Hi, While the struggle I continually have with myself is a small enough price to pay, I was wondering about the wisdom of making things easier on myself by using patches. Would value your opinions. Hi author1 I am on the patch and have been doing really well with it.What is the reason for thinking of using it now? Are you having lots of cravings and are afraid you may slip? My doc. has me on it for a total of 4 mths with decreasing strengths over time. Just let me know and I can give you lots more info. :)redrosie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 471 Amount Saved: $157.7 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 21 Mins: 56 Seconds: 33

There are millions of smokers who envy you those 19 days of no smoking. I always said I could quit smoking for three weeks anytime I wanted to because for that amount of time I am battling a physical addition as well as a psychological addiction. After about three weeks the thought of a cigarette seemed so sweet and relaxing. I've been so good....I can have just one. Demon Nicotine was SCREAMING at me to feed my addiction. You can beat the demon by not giving him what he wants....nicotine. After three weeks of no nicotine you are ready to take on the real fight. The real fight is keeping the quit. You are the only one who can decide about using the patch. You have gone 19 days without nicotine so I'm not sure how that will be going back on it, even with the patch. Maybe someone else here has done this and can advise you better. You are doing a great job. You should be proud. Keep your quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,825 Amount Saved: $665 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 0 Mins: 11 Seconds: 50

I think that going on the patch after being nicotine free for so long might be a bad idea. You're actual physical nicotine withdrawal is already over. What you're fighting now is psychological, and introducing nicotine back into your body probably wouldn't have any positive effects. Let us know how you're doing.
