Whirred, There are many different coping mechanisms to quitting, this may very well work for some and may not work for others. Does anyone want to share what works for them? Melanie _____________________ The SSC Support Team

I have all teenagers and I would be afraid that there would be times I would smoke just so I could put a cig out on their faces. Anyone who has teenagers will understand that.

Here is my Dad's quit story. You want to hear brutal ... this is brutal: My Dad was rushed to the hospital for quadruple bypass heart surgery. He has a huge scar from his the middle of his neck, straight down his chest to his groin area. It is amazing he is alive. When he got home every cigarette & ashtray in the house was thrown away. He hasn't had a smoke since. It has been 10 years. Hey Whirred :) Personally I am way too sensitive to do anything like that (even if I did have kids, which I don't) but if i were to say, put my cat's pic in the ashtray or even on the pack would make me cry (it almost makes my cry just thinking about it!) So in any case if you are sensitive like me don't do that. You don't want to hurt yourself any more than you want to hurt your kids. What works for me is doing it for myself first and then taking a look around me and seeing the advantages of what a smoke free environment does for my family too, and then it beomes a total package deal. But I MUST do it for me first. I did it for someone years ago and stayed quit for 4 yrs only to return to it again- because why? I didn't do it for ME to begin with, and in fact, I wasn't even in the picture at all. I had done it for everyone else EXCEPT me. I am doing it for me first this time, and now it really is the whole package deal ;) I hope this helps! Many Blessings, Eve :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 76 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 9 Seconds: 20

I had heard this method on a forum I frequent at times, and they had a smoking discussion one day. One member there said that he quit smoking by taping a picture of his kids to his ashtray, so that every time he smoked, he had to put the butt out on his kids faces.. I have mixed feelings about that.. for one, that would sure as hell make me quit, having to do that all the time, but at the same time, would you want to disrespect your kids like that? and what does C.A.R.E. mean? Thanks!

Hi there! I don't think it is disrespectful to do that. I think everyone needs an inspiration to start the quit process, and maybe the little picture that he paints in his mind of what he is doing to his kids is it. But some people need that graphic reminder........... Ditto on Rusty's response.
