Hi Stoppin, I agree that you cannot make this site your life. What I have found, even though I am still in the early stages of my quit, is that if you are on this site 24/7 then you end up thinking about giving up smoking all the time. So I think that once you have got over the initial obsession then it is good to visit only occasionally. But I also think that as we all have gained from others when we are/were new quitters, then we should still make the effort later on to visit in order to help others in the same way that we got help and inspiration ourselves. Anyway, will have to get on and get some work done :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/6/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 50 Amount Saved: 10 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 22 Seconds: 2

Stoppin, I think you have a point about obsessing. I decided on day 5 that I was not going to spend my time thinking about WHAT WILL HAPPEN if I do this or do that.. will I get a craving.. I just said.. i don't care and whatever happens happens.. I'm not going to smoke. Believe it or not it really helped. I am on day 8 today. I had a day almost completely without cravings or thoughts yesterday. I can not explain it except that I just quit obsessing. I don't think about it much anymore. I come here because I like you all and know we are all in the same boat. This is part of my quit.. I'm glad you are going to stop obsessing.. but don't run away.. just check in once in a while.. Hang Tuff !! Chris

Nice post Stoppin' Lots of food for thought...............I suppose that to one extent or another, we all go through some degree of obsession during the quit process. It is a powerful addiction that has to be broken so the support on this site is (in my opinion) a vital distraction. So whether you actively post or just browse, at some point you will probably drift away from the forum. At that point, you could argue that the site has fulfilled its role. It is nice, however, to see people popping back for big anniverseries..........and probably in my case....to update the soap! It seems like early on in my quit, I was online here every hour. Call it obsession if you will. Frankly, I think I was scared and without this site I would have been going it alone. After a while, with each milestone crossed I got a bit more comfortable with my quit. Eventually, I spaced out my visits. I still check in here most days, mostly to lend some support if I can. But also, it is a reminder to myself that I am human, I am one puff away from a pack a day. The day I forget the hell I went through during the first 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, is the day I start smoking again. Staying involved here reminds me of those days that I hope never to forget. I think that I have been obsessing on my quit! I decided after living on this sight and reading anything and everything about quiting 24/7 for the last 2 weeks I have just been consumed. Yesterday I said enough is enough I need to just go on with my life and I have actually had a really good day. My advise for self on 2/9 Quit the obsessive quit!!! I am sorry, I think most of you mis-understood what I was trying to say. I spent so much time on here that it is all I was thinking of; which I think made the craves worse. I think daily visits here are a must for all of us, me too. What I was getting at (and used the words 24/7) wasn't good for me. I couldn't even put in time at work without visiting here or reading somewhere else all about smoking, smoking, smoking, smoking..... ugh...smoking....not going to think about it anymore today....just gonna breathe deep! I can understand that. The fact is that most of us who have stuck around a while are pretty much addicted to this site and to helping newbies quit because we got the same support when we quit as well. If you need to take a break in order to live your smoke free life and not feel consumed by the site, then by all means go for it! I wish you the best, but remember... if things get tough and you need to come here and vent, PLEASE do that before smoking! Enjoy your smoke free life! Crave the Quit! It makes perfect sense. I have seen (and been one of them) many people who fade off the site for awhile. We all need space sometimes, even if it is from an electronic board. Keep in mind that we'll be here if you need any help or just want to rant. Protect the quit! I like to think of it as the "immersion method." My quit was so intense and involved so many life changes, that I needed to immerse myself in this site to make it. Call me a slow learner, but look at my stats. :) Rusty My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 424 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,883 Amount Saved: $1484 Life Gained: Days: 58 Hrs: 9 Mins: 3 Seconds: 39
