Hi Bambi; Sounds like me. I am using patch and cravings have not really been bad, not like I expected after 35 years of smoking. I do get one once in awhile, have to tell myself smoking will not make me feel better, only I can do that. My morning craving has pretty much left, and when it is there, I grab my coffee and get on this site. I have never quit for more than a day before, this time I was informed and committed and I tell myself when a craving does hit, it will pass, You will get thru it, come to this site when you need help. Keep up the good work. Bambi,I am on the patch and this weekend I started step 3 which is 7mg's. this has been a very hard day for me. I had to stay very busy. I love to watch women's college basketball but I could not do it because that is a trigger for me, because I always smoked while I watched the game. So I went to see my friend who lost her husband last week and she don't smoke. That really helped me. I think this will be my hell week. But I plan to win this war. And that is what it really is. I like you had no cravings when I started nor did I even think of smoking. But the cig's were such a part of who we were and it won't happen over night. You stay strong and get that plan working. I will be thinking of you, hang tight!!!! :) Sunshine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 982 Amount Saved: $199.5 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 7 Mins: 36 Seconds: 21

Thanks eveyone for the advice, I have made a list of things i have to do when nico tries to befreind me again, its a very very very long list. This time im going to come straight on to this site when i start hearing the 'voices'. I am on day 7 today, the longest i have gone in a long time and i feel good about myself and i want to keep that feeling. I was on the bus the other day with my 11 year old son and he said "mom you dont smell", so i said why do i usually smell. He replied with "yes you usually smell of cigerettes, but you dont smell of anything and its nice". Its funny how you can walk about for years stinking like an ash tray and not even realise it, or be so hooked that you dont even care. Hi Bambi, like you I was using the patch. I was merrily going on my way until around day 45, when I had about 3 really tough days. But before then, I also would get that evil little voice saying... " come on, one won't hurt, who is going to know?" That is the Nicodemon trying to get you back in his clutches. This is the time when you really need to be prepared for how you will cope. You ask why do you still want one. I know for me a lot of it is familiarity. Smoking WAS so much a part of who we were and how we lived our days that it definately seems to leave a big void of time we have to learn to fill. But, at day 6, you are doing great. Hell week is almost over! Remember to follow doctors' or boxes directions about the patch. It really has worked for me. Hi, bambi. You've been fortunate to have had an easy time of it so far. Everyone is different. Some get slammed hard from the first minute and hell week is literally an understatement. Others never have a problem. Everyone else is somewhere in between. What you're experiencing is "junkie thinking". Parts of your brain are missing nicotine and are trying to talk you into giving them their fix. This could last a few days or for months, again depending on the person. But this thinking does diminish in intensity and frequency as time goes on. Just ignore it and do what you can to distract yourself from it. If it does win, you must understand that what you've given in to is an upset chemical process in your brain. You've simply lost to yourself; your addict self. Hang in there, bambi. When the junkie thinking starts, come here first and let us know. Smoking won't stop it, just prolong it. Hi Bambi, I used the patch and found that a crave would sneak up on me at odd times. Just beware of the fact that it can happen and be ready for it, have a plan, post here and ask for help, have your coping skills honed. The demon sneaks up at the wierdest times but if you are ready for him he wont get you!! Its not easy but its worth it!! Hi Bambi, Find a post on site that really means something to you, or write something yourself. Every time you consider smoking a cigarette, read it first. Carry it around with you. Never smoke until youve read it. If you have children, add their photos to the post. I found that after reading my reasons for quitting and looking at my childrens photos, the idea of having a cigarette just disappeared. Not cravin', never cavin'. When that little voice of addiction comes knocking at your door, talk to it. Say "You may want one, but I don't. I have chosen not to smoke today." As Melanie said, make a plan. Be prepared! Bambi, You need to come up with a plan! When a craving sets in, think about what are you going to do or what you can do to not give in! Try writing down some coping techniques to particular scenarios. For example, the house is clean there is nothing to do and the cravings kicks in. You have already eaten and you are in a state of panic. Try leaving the house, go for a walk, call a friend, jump on the site, have a shower. Anything that takes your mind off of temptation is beneficial. Quitting smoking is not easy and that is why we are here! We are here to help you learn on how to quit smoking and be successful. You can do this! Keep us posted and be sure to jump back on the site to let us know how you have coped with your cravings. We all learn from each other! Take care and congrats on quitting smoking!
