    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Wow, thank you all so much for the kind words of encouragement!!!! Yes...I did it! 15 days free from smoking and my sense of smell is already showing signs of getting sharper. I've so missed the way some things smell...like a freshly cut field of hay, or the fresh smell of a Spring shower! Nothing like it, so help me! I had cravings and I used the under the tongue Stop Smoking spray for the really tough spots, maybe three times used. Otherwise, the days were so filled with fun and activity that I didn't have a whole lot of time to dwell on the fact that I was in the process of withdrawing from Smoking. Then came the dreaded drive home. I'd been really REALLY afraid of this drive. In the past, if I was all alone, like in a car driving a long distance, I would stop and pick up a pack of cigarettes. By the time I got home, if it was a long drive, I would have smoked at the very least a 1/2 a pack if not nearly all of it. I prepared myself by having water and coffee, (yes, I drink coffee and it wasn't something I even thought about giving up while quitting smoking,)and psyching myself up for getting in my car. I started my breathing exersizes and I kept saying...you only have to make it for one more minute...or one more mile. 4 1/2 hours later, I was home and I made it without a cigarette!!!! It is now a quarter till 8 PM, and I've still not had a cigarette. There are smokers in my house and they are being quite good about smoking outside away from my window. So now, its one day at a time, one moment at a time to success. And I am so very happy that the worst part of it is behind me. The withdrawal from the Nicotine, especially the fourth day, is awful for me every time. Now, it's the day to day fight in my head against the nicotine monster voice beguiling me to, "just take a drag off one, and it won't hurt a thing!" Yeah right...I've talked myself into smoking just one so many times and immediately am back to smoking one cigarette after another! So thank you everyone and I am now here for the duration. I promise that when I am feeling that urge, I'll write. When I feel in any way weak against this incidious addiction, I will write. And again in advance, Thank you for being here! Thank you all so very very much. Your words are soothing and do help. I had a couple of moments where I saw my sons cigarettes and felt the hard pull from them. I immediately said a mental NO and left. I went into my room where the door stays shut and there is almost no detectable smell of cigarettes and wait out the craving whilst breathing deep. Worked! Last night I had a dream about smoking. I almost never remember my dreams so this was significant. And here I am...another day smoke free. Thank you all for being there and helping guide me through this. I just know I can make it this time... the motivation is strong and your support is humbling. Now...should I move to another area to continue the adventure? Any recommendations? Thanks everyone for the continued kind words...I REALLY appreciate the supportive spirit each of you have here! The son has taken his smoking outside...almost all the time now. Yes, his room still smells of smoke but he keeps the door closed and works to keep the remainder of the house smoke/relatively smell free. However, smoking in the house continued until two or three days prior to my return home so the smell was still pretty strong. So he too is working to keep from being the cause of triggers. The house was clean when I got home though! And that just made coming home from my vacation WONDERFUL!!!! Frankly, I was shocked...I really didn't expect the house to look as good as it does. Had a most excellent day today. Have been busy and only a few minor 'urges' but nothing that I wasn't able to deal with. I've not had to use the Stop Smoking spray in many days, but if I get any real bad ones I won't hesitate to continue using the spray as needed. Hope everyone else is haveing a great day! Thanks again! In just less than an hour, I will begin my adventure to living a cigarette free life! And BOY am I ready to get it on! This is my 8th quit, With each setback, I learned something new that I hadn't done before. Only after coming here to the Stop Smoking Center did I realize what was tripping me up. Lack of preparation! I will tell you that there is a mental reorganization that went on as I changed things in my environment that are directed toward the success I so desire. Timing is also important. I am a stress smoker. More stress, more cigarettes. I have been working for the past three weeks to clean my bedroom. Yes, I used to smoke in my bedroom. Actually in my bathroom but, the smoke was free to billow out into the sleeping area...thus permeating my entire space, and making everything stink. I began cleaning at the ceiling and worked my way to the floor. All clothes have been rewashed, drawers emptied, wiped out and filled with clean clothes. And finally, the carpet was scrubbed. As I walk from my bedroom to the living area of my home, the difference in the smell of the two rooms is DRASTIC! And I'm THRILLED!! I have also set the scene tomorrow to make it as easy as possible by creating a number of distractions... To start, lots of errands, beginning early in the morning. Immediately upon arriving home again around noon, I will be busy packing my car in preparation for going on a two week vacation where I will be with my new, non smoking boyfriend....who also happens to be a retired Fireman/Paramedic and is more than happy to be my full support system during our vacation! Then, while I'm off kicking my feet up and relaxing, my three son's will be going through the house; cleaning it from end to end. They are smokers and have agreed to take their habit outside from starting tomorrow, and continuing all the while I'm gone to allow the house to air out as much as possible. All ashtrays will have been removed from the common areas of the house, as well as any cigarettes. By the time I get back, I will have been smoke free for two weeks...I know I can take it from there WITH YA'LLs help. When I drive back from my vacation, I will have only one thing on my mind. To get home, log on, and start talking to the members here...because I also
