My first day

Cuddles, Thanks for writing me back - I cannot access this site at work because my employer blocks these sites, so i had to wait to get home to see if anyone responded to my email from this morning. I noticed that you first joined SSC last year, but didn't quit until April - had you tried to quit last year when you initially joined? I am hoping this really does the trick for me as i keep trying (and failing) to quit. Years ago i was a smoker, and managed to quit for 22 years by going cold turkey. then i met my husband who is a smoker, and it was all over. I know that for me to quit successfully i need to go cold turkey - no cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, etc. My husband is trying to be supportive - it's my own demons that are making me fail. AAGH!!!

Nice to see a few of you up early. today is my first day - was up with nightmares about smoking last night - i wanted one bad, but managed to stay in bed. My biggest problem will be that my husband continues to smoke, so we still have all the ashtrays, lighters, and CIGARETTES in the house. I will be using this site to get me through. Lucy: My quit day is June 1, and i am thinking on putting on that dam patch today. I have had my morning coffee and my morning cig for a last time goodbye and now want to start. God i didnt realize how hard it would be to get to this point. My husband smokes as well. I cant exspect him to quit but i hope he respects my decision enough to not smoke around me and possibly give it up himself. But I have to do what i think is right for myself-so good luck and keep me posted on how you are doing with a smoker in the house

Welcome Luci, I am new in my quit as well. Before I quit I told all my loved ones and friends that I can not be around smoke right now. I asked them if they would please not smoke around me until I was more secure in my resolve and that I would let them know when that was. We did not smoke in the house, so luckily that was not a problem. I would ask your hubby if he would please smoke outside in support of your quitting. I think it would be very helpful to you. Just my thoughts. Congrats on your decision ... we'll be here to support you in it. Hi Luci, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to quit smoking. You face an added challenge of living with a smoker. Surely you must know this will make your quit harder so start planning! Have distractions at the ready and for the time being maybe it would be best if your husband hid all the cigarettes from you until your body has gone through most of the nicotine detox. Read through our forums. I'm sure you'll find something you can use or someone who's been in your shoes. Keep going through the program, remember why you quit and reward yourself for your accomplishments. We're all here for you so don't hesistate to ask questions or vent.
