WHEN DOES WITHDRAWL GET BETTER??????

18 years ago 0 72 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone- just a quick question for those who have been smoke-free longer than me (2 weeks) WHEN WILL MY WITHDRAWL SYMPTOMS BE GONE? Specifically, the mood swings, sleep problems, constipation and spaced out feeling. I exercise, drink plenty of water, eat fruit and use other coping techniques but I am still plagued by some of these symptoms. What did you find was the time when you noticed no physical symtoms and that your moods were stabilized. Thanks for your input. Denisey, I'm about the same quit time as you and I know why you're asking. I don't think that the urge to smoke will ever go away totally, but the ability to dismiss the crave becomes easier with practice. That's what we are doing now, practicing how to deal with it for the rest of our lives. Hi Denisey, it never goes!
Specifically, the mood swings, sleep problems, constipation and spaced out feeling.
You will get that lot for the rest of your life on and off.....only it won't be from stopping smoking....it is life! And its great! Denisey, Its just like BFS said, everyone is different. My personal opinion is that it takes as long as your mind allows it to take. I believe that attitude can determine how long withdrawl symptoms last. I believe its like mind over matter. Some folks have a harder time with their quit because they are expecting bad withdrawls. Others have a fairly easy quit because they dont let the fear of withdrawl get into their thinking. Also, there is knowledge. The more you know about the characteristics of withdrawl, the better you can prepare to counteract the symptoms. Just gotta hang in there, have patience, READ, READ, and READ. Then POST, POST, and POST. Try to figure out what countermeasures works best for you. 14 days is fantastic!!! I think you are well on your way with being comfortable in your quit. Keep up the good work!!! Hope this helps!!! Duffis told us all a long time ago that all withdrawls go away on Tuesday. I think someone already bumpt the thread. It's one of my favorites. Keep your possitive attitude and you will be fine. 14 days is awesome! Every day is one day closer to never feeling the way you do now again. We all smoked for many years and unfortunately, all the affects of that do not disappear over night. Early in my quit I wanted someone to just speed up my meter so that I would feel better. Doesn't work that way. Remember everything you are going through right now. The worse it is right now, the less you will be willing to repeat it. Keep your quit. You are doing GREAT! Denisey, Unfortunately, everyone is different as far as when things get better. Please read Duffis' "when will they stop?" here. This is a funny post, but also very good perspective. I wish there was a specific timeline for when things get better, but unfortunately, there isn't. Just hang on and it WILL get better... and often times, you don't even notice it when it does. Crave the Quit! stable you say??? I don't think I was stable even when I smoked?? LOL I think sometimes that after a period of time, we are still blaming our quit with problems that we had even when we smoked?? and I realize that you are only quit a short time and the symptoms haven't left yet.....and I don't mean to make light of them....but it helps to laugh :)......things just 'gradually' get better until one day you realize that you are feelin' just pretty danged good. Just keep kickin butt....you will get there katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1487 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,518 Amount Saved: $8178.5 Life Gained: Days: 194 Hrs: 2 Mins: 3 Seconds: 36

Denisey, Remember, everyone's quit will be different and yours will be unique. You are just ending "heck week" and you may find it a little bit easier for awhile. Hang on to your mechanisms, you don't want to get the wind knocked out of you :) Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
