I can't take a vacation from my Quit...

MC, Thanks for sharing your experience with us! It's amazing the clarity that comes when your body isn't flowing full of nicotine. Hopefully, this will help motivate you and others to keep striving to be non smokers for life! Danielle ______________________________________ The SSC Support Team

enjoy your vacation. Unfortunately, I predict those 12 days will fly by as fast as the average cold Turkey (up to 60 mph if memory serves - that's pretty durn fast for a Turkey, IMHO) - and upon your return, please come see us just as quickly to regale us with wonderful vacation stories so that us poor slobs who won't be seeing any vacation time for months to come can enjoy vicariously... those firsts w/o smokes can have some hidden traps, so keep an eye on your quit - nothing you don't know, of course. keep fightin' the good fight - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 146 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,396 Amount Saved: $730 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 22 Mins: 51 Seconds: 40

Thanks everyone! Yes, it was great. We went up to Jasper, TN, (near Chattanooga but much prettier,) for a World Trials Event. We were there for 4 days. Then we moved on to Gatlinburg where we made our "base-camp" @ a nice motel w/ balconies overlooking Little River & explored Cades Cove, Tuckaleechee Caverns, Clingman's Dome, and as much of the Smokies as we could squeeze in. We came home thru Cherokee & by that time J.D. was fairly tired of driving so we took the quicker, less scenic route & I finally finished a book I'd been trying to get thru. (No, the book didn't turn out to be as life-changing as I'd hoped. Oh, well.) I didn't experience any unexpected triggers or cravings but when we made an unplanned stop in Snellville,GA on the way home due to very bad weather I was definitely slapped in the face w/ one the many reasons I quit. The closest motel had only one room left: A smoking room. Naturally I pictured a smoldering Ho Jo's but I gotta tell ya, I don't remember ever experiencing that before! It smelled awful. I actually found it difficult to breathe & I could feel my sinuses starting to do whatever they do that's very unpleasant. Now, I try not to be one of those quitters that whines everytime someone smokes near me. But this was bad. We brought in a few things just to get thru the night & the next morning, but then rushed out to get something to eat & to get away from the smell! But, it seemed worse when we went back than it had the first time. Maybe back in the days when J.D. & I were both active smokers I just didn't notice. But, people, that was gross. I tried to set the bedside alarm but all the buttons were sticky. Eeww! (Believe me, it was definitely not the cheapest place either!) The next day we packed up quickly & got back on the road. I didn't think about the nasty room again until we got home & I went to start the inevitable mountain of laundry. The things that we had worn into the room, the things that we had slept in & the clothes we put on that morning in the room still wreaked! Yuck! My Summer vacation served a bonus purpose of reminding me again why I quit. I'm back & I'm as determined as ever. Don't smoke, okay? It's bad for you. Cold Turkeys prefer to be UNscented, thank you. So I guess I'll have to take my Quit with me. This will be the longest family-vacation we've ever been able to take. Usually a shortage of paid-vacation days & too little funds got in the way before. And this will be my first vacation as an ex-smoker. I really don't anticipate any problem there because I vividly remember how previous wknd getaways were actually more difficult when I was smoking. It was hard to get away from everyone to go sneak a smoke when I didn't have work or somewhere else to use as an excuse. Anyway, it doesn't seem like very long, (about 12 days,) but this will also be the longest I've been away from the SSC since I quit. Now that bothers me. I don't even want to think about all I'll be missing. Please promise to not raise too much of a ruckus & don't have too much fun while I'm gone, okay? Cold Turkeys are a little choked up... (Oh, yeah, and don't smoke, okay? It's bad for you.)
