Hi Angelic, I've been on the patches for 11 weeks and today's my first day 'patch free'. And guess how I feel? Absolutely no different to yesterday. I too have had times of self-doubt. Remember that as patch quitters, the nicotine monster is still alive and well and we won't see the end of him until coming off the patches. So don't be afraid of being patch free, look forward to it as the start of a new chapter in your life! Keep strong, Keep posting, All the best Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 78 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,353 Amount Saved: 585 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 1 Mins: 52 Seconds: 17

Angelic, I have been off the patches for 1 week now and the first couple of days were quite tough again, although nothing like the first few days of my quit. But I have also found this weekend quite hard and I have had the odd tough moment before at about the same stage you are at. Like Lady says I think most of us go through this, I put it down to the fact that we think we have this thing licked when we haven't totally and tend to forget how bad smoking actually makes us feel when we are doing it. Just keep strong and take pleasure from the fact that you can beat the cravings. Angelic, Be strong. Take heart and take heed. I, and all here, have travelled a similar but not same path. From my experience, when I've questioned the point of it all, the answer was in the origin of my quit. Who do you want to be? Why did you quit? Your answers lie within yourself. Sorry to sound like Yoda or something, but this is the part where you have to let go and believe that this is all going to work out. You will make it to the other side of this. These feelings will pass and you will be alright. Trust in yourself. Be good and kind to yourself. You have earned this. Don't let the worry keep you from the wonderful place you want to be. It's there and you are getting closer one step at a time. Just make it through today, each day. You can do this. Life or death, live or die. There is only do, there is no try. Choice puts the free in freedom. No hurries, no worries. Keep on keepin' on - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 132 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,983 Amount Saved: $660 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 4 Mins: 1 Seconds: 55

Angelic... I am a cold turkey quitter but I do remember the period that you are talking about. While I'm sure there is some association with the patch, I think you are also experiencing a natural part of the quit process. For me, somewhere around the 60 day mark...the nicodemon was working really hard on me. I kept questioning my quit. Why was I doing it, would it ever be better, did it even matter, did anyone care, all kinds of stuff along those lines. I think this was a turning point in my quit. I went through that for about a week with some really intense cravings. Just as I was about to give up, I woke one morning and actually felt good for the first time in my quit. I felt releaved and it was like the nicodemon had made his final stand to get me to give up and he lost. Since that time, I have had a few days that were tough. But nothing like it was at that point. So as Golferman always says, embrace it. It's part of your healing process. Welcome it with open arms for it means you are moving forward. Congratulations. ok guys I need some help here. Lately I have the big feeling of being completely lost in my quit. I find myself questioning my quit even though I do not want to fail. Let me first tell you guys why all this is happening. At least why I think it is all happening. I have been using the Nicorderm CQ patch. I started with the 21mgs and now I am on my final step. I have about a week and a half left on the patches and then I am done and I am so afraid of this. I feel like as if I am not ready to let go. I have been having all these craving thoughts and I just want them to go away. I will not smoke or give in to what my mind wants so why is this still happening? Any advice would be great!!!! Thanks in advance. I just don't understand why this is happening now when I am getting ready to be 2 months smoke free. I am thinking about smoking way to much. It is almost a feeling like being back in my first 2 weeks. Angelic,
just don't understand why this is happening now when I am getting ready to be 2 months smoke free.
Would you consider a 2 month old a grown adult? Of course not! A 2 month old is still an infant. You are still an infant in your quit. 2 months IS a long time and it is definitely something to be proud of, but you are still rather new to this, compared to the years that you smoked. We poisoned our bodies for SO long... it's only natural that it will take more than a couple of months to be completely free of this... they say 12 - 18 months. Now that doesn't mean that you will feel like this for 12 to 18 months... it just means that you will go through periods where you have some self doubt and as you put it, lost. Give it some time... all things heal with time. You're doing fantastic. Don't give up! Crave the Quit! Angelic, This is your body's attempt to have you slip. You are the one in control now. Push those cravings aside and tell yourself that you want to remain quit. Think of why you quit smoking in the first place. You can win :). Quitting smoking is not easy. With the help of your family, friends and us within this support group you will remain smoke-free!
