OMG, a junkie thought!

18 years ago 0 58 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I quit for around 10 months about 4 yrs ago I had one of those junkie thoughts and gave into it... I don't REALLY know why... but in no time I was right back to a pack a day... and really gave up the quit didn't really even try again until recently... I'm NOT going to let myself do that again! heck it's only been 4+ days since I had a slip... and that slip REALLY turned me off smoking.. I haven't even had a junkie thought since... or at least it's so fleeting moments that it's like I didn't even get a chance to hear it lol.. like a whisper I couldn't quite catch lol.. Shevie it's hard to believe that we are coming up on a year. I to had a junkie thought the other day after opening my fish pond and planting some plants in the yard my brain said work done time to have a cig. I almost stepped on a snake forgot about the cig ! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 308 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,173 Amount Saved: $1386 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 17 Mins: 52 Seconds: 13

I remember the time a few months ago when I went to the store and asked for my brand of cigarettes... and then realized what I had done and said, "Nevermind! I don't smoke!" It's silly what our brains come up with sometimes. A few days ago, someone from this site told me that they'd gone back to smoking, and one of the first thoughts that went through my head was, "well, if I smoke, then we can have the same quit date!" Well, that person didn't actually smoke... it was a joke... and even if they had, I don't think I would have smoked just so we could set our quit meters back... but yes, that thought ran through my head. Thanks for this thread Shevie! These are really funny! And I'm glad you didn't smoke... I mean, then you wouldn't be able to get your 1 year reward at all and would have to wait another year!!! How awful would that be?!?!?! Great post! Crave the Quit! LOL, Peanut. Yep, I think almost stepping on a snake would be sufficient distraction. I'll stick to my treadmill. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 316 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,333 Amount Saved: $1200.8 Life Gained: Days: 59 Hrs: 0 Mins: 42 Seconds: 28

If you start smoking you wont have to wait for your reward. Yep, thats what went through my head yesterday on the way to the gym after work. My one year reward is all picked out, the list is made, all thats needed is for May 23 to come around so I can get it. Ive been compared to a little kid waiting for Christmas and its a most valid comparison. I was so shocked at having a real junkie thought after so long that I naturally focused on its presence instead of what it had said. Basically, it shot itself in the foot because there was no crave, longing, desire, nag, or any other potential quit-threat that went with it, just the thought and the surprise. 45 minutes on the treadmill ground it up real good. Lesson: This addiction is life-long and opportunistic. It can rear its ugly head at any moment for any reason, real or imagined. BOB!!! Long time, no read. Glad to see you're hanging in there. Been wondering about you and your granddaughter. Congratulations on 300+ days quit. We just keep on keepin' on. :) That's great that you've gotten a co-worker to quit and now maybe his wife, too. Awesome! Got plans for your 1 year reward? I totally get it Shevie. I had two instances recently - one in Guatemala (cause everywhere I went I had smoked one there last year PLUS I smoked like a chimney there last year in anticipation of my quit). The other, like you, peanut was in the spring garden. So used to stopping after a job and rewarding myself (HA WHAT A JOKE!!) with a cigarette! What is wrong with this picture? Planting healthy organic vegetables and rewarding myself with a stick of cancer???? Oh the tangled webs we weave!!!! Finally free and yet never free. This is a great thread Shevie. I can say that I have been there and done that to all of you. Here is my twisted junk thought. Living with Pete's quit has some real conflicts that are just sympathy craves and knowing where she is coming from when she tells me that the craves are super strong. I thought to my self the other night way not just give in and then I realized where I was and who I was and that I have to be more attentive to my quit as well as Pete's until she is strong enough in her quit to stand alone. It is good people like you Shevie that are honest enough to relate the real process of quitting and the dangers of becoming too sure of ourselves. This is an excellent reminder that we all need to pay attention. Thank you Duffis duffis's Quit Stats Since Sunday, February 13, 2005, I've been smoke-free for: 1 Year(s), 50 Days, 17 Hours, 34 Minutes, 26 Seconds. I have saved $1,743.00 by not smoking 12471 cigarettes. By not smoking I have added 90 Days, 1 Hours, 30 Minutes, 8 seconds. to my life expectancy.
