Wow, you seem wise beyond your years. It sounds like the experiences you have had to endure has really shaped you into a compassionate, resourceful and strong individual. The program is a great addition to your already healthy lifestyle. It will help you to literally change the structure of your brain so that you no longer are as easily triggered into downward spirals. It takes time and a lot of practice but it will work. Have you worked on a CBT program in the past?
I'm a 25 yr old woman who like many of you suffer from depression. I began experiencing symptoms when I was just 17 and it's been a roller coaster transitioning into adulthood. I was probably 20 before I realized it was an ongoing problem that would not just go away on it's own. I tried to seek help from my university's counselling centre but I didn't find it to be helpful and I became discouraged. At that point in my life I realized being away from my family was worsening the problem so I moved back home and finished school closer to home. I always had excuses for why i felt the way I did. I honestly believed I was just stressed from school and once I was finished school, my happiness would return. This was not the case. Whenever major life events would take place it would spiral me back into a deep depression. I tried medication once when the suicidal thoughts/ideations were overhwelmingly unbearable (this was in 2013), however I didn't have health insurance and could not afford $70/mth meds. As well, I felt as though the medication made me feel emotionally numb. It was around this time that I was also battling an (undiagnosed) eating disorder. Fast forward to now, I have a slightly better control over my ED and depression. I make healthier choices, I workout regularly for stress relief rather than weight loss and I am recognizing my bhevaiours and emotions much better. I'm hoping to continue the 16 week plan to better myself and evenutally see a doctor again for medications as I do qualify for insurance come July. Anyone who's going through the program who is making treatment goals or plans? I'd really like some insight from other individuals.
PS You're all so amazing for taking these steps towards bettering yourselves and your health. :)
