Windsybarbie, Windsybarbie, Windsybarbie, what are we going to do with you???? Maybe just give you a great big hug.  I understand the feeling of rejection by people who are supposed to help you.  You are not so far gone that you aren't looking for help, I would worry more if you weren't coming here.
I believe that you will find help, I have to believe that because I know there is help somewhere out there for you and me.  We just have to keep looking for it.
I also believe it is best that you let your work know what you are going through, although not all co-workers/bosses will understand, they generally do their best to accommodate (they don't want to have to interview a million new people when the employee they have is spectacular).  It is very uncomfortable at first, but after some time (don't ask me how long because I am always told wait and see).
You are obviously a tough cookie, based on your occupation, you need patience and perseverence when you are working with special needs people, now you just have to apply your patience and perseverence to yourself.
Keep us posted.

Hi Windsybarbie,
Wow, I completely understand, unfortunately, I don't have weekly appointments to speak with a therapist, I have daily evening group for 4 hours every night (except weekends thankfully).  So I feel you are very lucky to have the one on one that you need.  In the meantime, how I handle the not knowing, the despair and the rejection, is worrying uncontrollably, vomitting, anxiety attacks and coming here (when my computer let's me in I can write and make responses).  My wee one cannot figure out either and demands answers in the here and now (does that sound familiar, concentrate on the here and now that we are talking about because I as the one with a degree demands it but you are not entitled to ask of me anything that requires an here or now answer).  Sorry, I have bad experiences gathering with some doctors, therapists, nurses, p.doc's etc.
Now that I have hopefully made you laugh, remember to be tough and keep asking questions, Remember you have the right to ask for help and emotional support (I am going to start a new string outlining My Rights as a Human Being, I received from a wonderful crisis worker).
Take care Windsybarbie.

Hi Strength18,

It sounds like you have been making some progress, keep using the program, posting, reading and doing what works for you. Always remember that we are here for you!
How does reading the forums and posting help you get through the rough moments? How does it make you feel?

I'm sort of experiencing the same thing. I have just recently began seeing a therapist. I think i've done about 5 sessions, 1 per week and although I do have a very busy life I feel myself wanting to talk to my therapist between our sessions. When I get those feelings I usually come here and check out what everyone is writing, or i'll post. This site always makes me feel much better, I even wish I had more time to come on here.Other than that, I'll work, spend time with family like goofy said, watch movies, go for walks, listen to music...

In between therapy sessions - I've got a supportive family, friends who will listen and are very perceptive to how I am doing with my depression and I have y'all.
I also feel like I can call him if I needed an appointment.  However, my situation is a bit different with the therapist as I used to work there.  I don't see one in the regular office (as I would have been seeing a therapist I literally worked with), I see one who works in crisis intervention (an in-patient short-term facility).  So this also keeps my emergencies in perspective.  I'm reminded unless I'm to that point (suicide), it can probably wait.  If I'm suicidal, I'm not calling him, I'm calling 911 (emergency #  here).
And again, words can't describe the value of this site in being able to post and knowing someone is 'out' there. hear's me, and understands and/or can relate.
I think windsy's but; rebuttal could help with this too.  Or am I overapplying the concept????

Hi windsy,

Always remember that you ARE very important and we are here for you so you are not alone! If you are having problems with your therapist do bring it up during your session, and hopefully you can discuss guidelines..etc like you mentioned in your post. Keep posting here to release what you are experiencing, we will listen and support you.

Members, what do you do to get through the time between appointments with your therapists?

Hi Everyone:

I know counsellors are very busy and they have many clients and cannot always stop
and leave you are a msg or contact other therapists.  HOWEVER, my inner child
wants things done now, and wants validation that it is okay.  She wants to know
that she is not in trouble with the therapist (metaphor=principal).  She said to call if
I had any questions on Thursday, and she never returned my call. My little ones are
trying to dissociate and ignore the hurt and neglect I feel.  Today it was if the therapist
could not help me, just too busy.....

I was really hurting, and I know her limitations, but the little person wanted to hear
from the therapist that she got my message and it is okay.  Is this too much to ask
of the therapist, or is this stepping  on boundaries.  I went early today before my group
mtg, hoping to straighten things a little, since Oct 5, and she talked to me for 1 min.
I was so hurt, I was starting to cry, then I said it is okay, it will have to wait until
Monday, because I have NO choice.  I have NOT seen her since Oct 5, 2009, b/c
of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

So my question is, is it okay to have these feelings, even knowing intellectually
counsellors are very busy, as they have a HUGE client load.  However my little
ones don't understand this, they feel abandoned and neglected again, and then
my concerns are last and that I am not important etc.....The tough act....I waited
this long what is 5 more days...in the mean time my insides are in a turmoil.
or should I be tough and carry on myself without any direction, and just wait
every Monday for my weekly appointment.

My thoughts to my self of cognitive distortions, is  I do not deserve any extra time
with the therapist, she has no time to give.  also I am thinking.....I don't deserve
to get my answers replied until "therapy time" and no other time.  I want to
discuss this with my therapist on guidelines etc...on Monday....

I wish therapists would understand how we feel, when we are depressed and just
wants someone there.  That is why I am glad I found this site, as you are my support system,
in between appointments.

I would be interested in hearing what other people experience or ideas on this
topic.  Have a good week, thanks for listening.  Take Care   Windsy
I know there is only so many therapists and shrinks, but what do us
consumers do when we feel we are NOT important, and our concerns
are on the bottom of the pile.....
