Losing my job

14 years ago 0 20 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Grumbles --

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  It's not like I won't have a job when/if I'm ready to go back to work.  They will have to find me another, equivalent, position.

I am having trouble staying motivated, and social, that's one of the reasons I'm working on the CBT program here.

On an upbeat note - my son took a couple days off work and drove (10 hours) to visit family, and I was invited to go with him!  It was so nice to be able to talk to my sisters in person instead of on the phone!  And it was nice to spend some mom & son time, too.

Hey Dragonfly,

Sorry I am just catching up on your situation.  I'm glad to hear you got through coffee and cake .

Thats good news.  So how are you doing now?  Keep us updated.  I know when I was off work I had trouble staying motivated.  All I wanted to do was lay around. I had to really push myself to get going.  Are you staying active and social during your time off work?

Hey dragonfly!

Wow congratulations on getting through the cake and coffee! What a great success! Sorry to hear about your job. And I know this will sound rite, but my mom always told me that when a door closes another one opens. I once asked what if that other door doesn't open? She said, then tons of windows will !

I do believe that. Sometimes, one opportunity comes to an end so something else we need can come in. In my life some of my biggest disappointments lead me to some of the best things that have happened to me!

Anyway, I just wanted to say I know how you feel as I have lost my job also this year. Hang in there! This too shall pass!

Good stuff Dragonfly!

You maintained your composure through an awkward and irritating situation which is something to be proud of!

Keep up with the meditation and deep breathing.............this will help to keep things in perspective and does wonders for keeping a positive frame of mind.

Good luck with week 2 - you are doing superbly!

Well, I made it through "coffee & cake" without letting my emotions run rampant.  Whenever anyone asked how I was doing, all I could say was "I'm doing everything I can to get better."  I wasn't able to be happy & cheerful but I didn't break down into hysterical tears either.  I'm so glad I asked my daughter and granddaughter to come with me - the antics of my little one helped fill some of the awkward silences.

Doing the mindful meditation CD before my shower was difficult - my mind wandered a lot more than usual but I completed the meditation and did feel a little calmer.

Now that today is over & done I'm going to focus on trying to move towards wellness and start on week 2 of the program.

Thanks Breanne!  I decided I can't do this alone so one of my daughters is going to come with me, and she'll bring my 3 year old grand daughter - there's nothing like a hug from a happy toddler to help lift the spirit.

But, before I go pick them up, I'm going to listen to my mindful meditation CD and do some deep breathing!

dragonfly,

Take deep breathes, and work on challenging those negative thoughts. If you feel and believe that you will not say anything hurtful or angry, you will not. You can do this!  Try to relax and enjoy yourself. If you feel like you are getting upset,  excuse yourself, and take some deep breathes.
Members, any other suggestions?
Hang in there dragonfly, it will get better

Hi Faryal --

Thanks for the encouragement.  This afternoon I'm going to the office to have "coffee and cake" with the staff and I'm so upset this morning that I'm afraid I'm going to say something hurtful or angry to my former colleagues.  Any suggestions?

Hi Dragonfly,

Life throws us situations at times that test our strength and resolve..............and certain situations seem to repeat themselves until we can attain a reasonable resolution.

I am sorry to hear that your position at work has been reposted leaving you without a job for now. However, this is an opportunity for you to revisit and perhaps discover other options for future work.

Challenging your negative core beliefs is an important aspect of this experience because our thoughts can manifest into our reality. You ARE very important and as you transform negative thoughts into positive ones, you will attract positive experiences into your life as well.
