Expressing yourself creatively, Part 1

15 years ago 0 3043 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Many moons ago... i took up embroidery to learn patience while travelling on the Metro to College. A two hour comute everyday.
and I learned that i was able to make nice things, and that I was good at something... it just a bit before my first major depressive episode.

i took art therapie and did not know how to connect to the darkness inside so everything was light and airy ... i was not ready to share
what was inside with those strangers.

now I bead.  I like to string textures, colours, and materials together and see what comes out. and many people like my things enough to
buy them.  So it helps my self-esteme and self-value.

Members,
Often times it can be very difficult to express ourselves out loud to ourselves or to a therapist. For this reason, some therapies are not focused on using creativity for personal expression. Art therapy can include:

·         Journaling

·         Painting

·         Water colors

·         Clay

·         Knitting or needlepoint

·         Sketching

·         Writing

·         Poetry

·         Drawing cartoons

·         Learning to play a musical instrument

·         Theatre

·         Dance classes

·         Crafting

·         Sewing

Have any members had a positive experience expressing themselves creatively?   Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator        < body>
