Info Day - AntiDepressants

hi gang, thanks smfry. I was very sick Sunday night - throwing up. I think i lost my meds. Then Monday I was slightly sore all over and could not hold down a thing... so I knew the illness was an infection. But Monday night I went to the clinic and lost it! I was sure the doc was crazy when he diagnosed a urinary tract infection - no pee buring and no fever and no pain- and a gastroenteritis (stomach flu). He just wanted to get rid of me...he doesn't care if I'm sick or faking...he wants to poison me with meds...and wants to see me thursday to make more money... It is a fine line between sane and bipo mood trips... I was even mumbling something that mixed my plans for the next work day and my crazy seroquel-withdrawl dreams. So I got home, LIED to my husband, ranted about incompetant last-in-the-class health care semi-professionals. Tuesday i was flu-like so I let the acks pass ... and Wednesday night I was cooking my family in the car because I was feverish. My lymph nodes in the neck, under arm and abdomen as so swollen I can barely move and I can't swallow! And I drink... my usual liquid intake is about 4 to 5 cups a day ... I am over the 3 litre mark for today!! So I swallowed my shame and chouette-chouette went to get the meds Wednesday night. So my judgement was severely clouded. And My chouette was too tired to ask any questions and too tired to care. As usual he let me care for my health as I saw fit. I had no idea that I could jump off the wagon after two doses of effexor and seroquel and a big bacterial infection. Also, I tried to diminish my doses a little while ago and flipped. So there has to be some way for me to catch my slips...

Wildcat, in my experience when I went off meds abruptly (because I no longer had a job, or health care and could not afford them) The withdrawal was immense with multiple symptoms. I do not recommend ending meds abruptly. I got very sick, memory loss, flu like symptoms (nausea/body aches) , confusion, dizziness, light headed, no appetite, and many more. I thought something was severely wrong with me, and I went to urgent care, they ran all the tests and couldn't find a thing. Then I was like well a month ago I stopped taking effexor after being on it for over a year, could that be it?. And they assured me that was the reason for all of my symptoms and that it can take a very long time for your body to recover. I got a new job and health care, and my new doc. said that going back on meds would take care of my symptoms, and sure enough, it did.

Wildcat, The symptoms of withdrawal when these medications are forgotten or stopped abruptly can vary significantly depending on the drug and the individual. We encourage you to follow the prescription as prescribed by your doctor. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

Members, Antidepressants may cause a variety of mild and usually temporary side effects (sometimes referred to as adverse effects) in some people. Typically these are annoying, but not serious. However, patients should be encouraged to immediately report any unusual reactions or side effects. The most common side effects of tricyclic antidepressants are: • Dry mouth • Constipation • Bladder problems • Sexual problems • Blurred vision • Dizziness • Drowsiness as a daytime problem • Weight gain • The SSRIs and newer antidepressants have somewhat different side effects: • Headache • Nausea • Nervousness • Agitation (feeling jittery) • Sleep problems • Sexual problems • Most of the medications that are prescribed to treat depression are usually started at a low dose and then the dose is gradually increased to the full dose. Every medication has side effects, but they usually become tolerated or diminish with time. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator
