Going to the Dr.

I did a little more research on the situational depression. I was leaving out one part of the diagnosis. Anxiety. It appears that anxiety puts a whole new twist on things and it is a little more clear now the direction of the medication. This day still sucks. I'm just hoping that soon things will be better and I won't feel this way anymore. I really am sick of it and frustrated with myself for feeling the way I do.

Wildcat, You are helping me understand a lot. More important, you are encouraging me and letting me know that I'm not alone. I relate to so much of what you said. I too am goal oriented and don't know how to be happy in the here and now. Just being is a concept that I don't seem to be able to comprehend. The effexor 150 is what I have been on for over a year now. I haven't ever liked it. Yesterday at my appointment, the psc. decided to change that. I should be off of it in about 8 days and then we are trying Lexapro. I have several anxiety issues as well. As a matter of fact my problem use to be anxiety and not depression at all. I guess I've been an over-achiever for quite some time. The worthless concept... it isn't ever good enough. No matter what goals are obtained, there isn't any satisfaction in reaching them. Attainment of being good enough just isn't possible. I too am worthless. Thank you for your help here Wildcat. I appreciate it and I'm glad you are here. Lady

my md was :eg: he asked if I was again sleeping through the night, if the crazy elevator nightmares were back... NO no night mares. yes sleeping through the night and half of my drive in and about 4 power naps a week... and a good sleep the week-end afternoons... Then he asked me about the agressive episode. No More like my blip on Thursday (thank a couple saints). So I have 150 effexor and 25 seroquel for at LEAST 1 year more. BYE. and he was ahead of his appointments. How not satifying was that? Then there was the psychologist ... she drove across a desert with me dragging behind her vehicule and she stopped for water and started the race again! So we talked.. about how my self help group is very much like me. Lots of novice bipolars and precious little experience. And was danced around till she asked WHO DO I WANT TO BE. WHO AM I!!! well that started the flood I have no idea. so I started with the sum of my parts... I am more than, workers, mom, wife, person, etc. i am . I am the goals I set up for my self. i am the hobbies, the art, the sum of a body of knowledge and the sum of a body of works... i discovered through this that I live from one challenge to the next and never appreciate the results... i have this answer what is the next? I NEVER live in the present moment. It hurt to admit all this! I admitted to being bored and unsatisfied with MY life - work husband, children, hobbies, and the whole kit- Worthless!!!only the attainment of the next prize is what matters! I want serenity. I want zen. Ti attain these I must learn to deal in the right here - right now. also I have to move beyound this "me" I have to learn thatI do not go to therapie to spew out the right answers.... I am there to learn what patterns are wrrrrrrrrrrong and how to fix them.

Lady, Situational depression is an emotional event that will affect most everyone at some time or another because there is trauma in every day life circumstances. Quite different from a clinically depressed state, depressive episodes that are based on circumstances will generally last for shorter periods of time and be much less severe. Events in life that lead to blue moods, feeling down, or low motivation may trigger clinical depression in those who hold high risk factors. The exact cause of depression is not known, but there are theories that point to several contributing components, and when more than one risk factor is present in an individual's life, their chances for experiencing severe depressive episodes increases. Because of this, depressive states that are the result of life situations should be treated; decreasing the risk for a much more serious episode. Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Hi Lady, A psychologist has a Ph.D. in psychology. Psychologists can specialize in many different sub-specialties within their field. They may do therapy or they may not. As for counselors and therapists, it depends on the individual state and their laws. In general, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) will have more training in therapy than a psychologist and will be required to do more counseling intern hours than a psychologist or even a psychiatrist. Wildcat, How was your appointment?

:quest: eh? :confuse: sorry. no idea. But I know how unsatisfying a psychiatrist appointment can feel. They analyse everything inside their phd heads and cough up a prescription... and send you on your way, to be followed by those who sent you. I hope today is better for you. I'm stable but exhaused... after one self-help group with lots of emotional people, one doctor appointment and one psychologist appointment in two days and 25 cm of snow I want to be institutionalised.
