Hi,
I've lost track of the number of combinations of antidepressants and moodstabilizers I have been on over the years. Lithium is the "gold standard" mood stabilizer (you probably know that) and the dr's first choice. I couldn't tolerate it - made me put on weight and for other medical reasons that couldn't be allowed. Second choice is Divalproex. Worked for me for years. Currently I am off all pure mood stabilizers as my mania is very small, more hypo mania (just baby ones) but my depressions are strong - have been suicidal strong. I really don't need a drug keeping the top off. And it sure wasn't working in raising the bottom of the depression.
I too am on a large number of medications for this. 2 levels of Welbutrin, Topomax, Lamotrigine, amytriptline (also used for headache relief) and a sleeping pill to counter act all of those. I also have anxiety pill at my disposal for those times I simply cannot cope.
And right now, I am relatively stable.
You just have to keep trying. It's hard to be patient. I know. But something will work for you.
