Let's talk about homework!

Hi! I've just completed Session 2. The Treatment Plan & Treatment Goals worksheets don't have very many prompts on them as to how to fill them out, and maybe I had trouble focusing on the info presented during the session itself. I'd like to go back and re-read some of it, but haven't managed it using the History feature on my browser (Firefox). I get the instruction to focus on "behavior not feelings" when setting goals. Other than that I don't understand how to fill out the Goals worksheet. Maybe I'm having trouble focusing on the support board too. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Perth, So glad I could help. Actually writting it down, in addition to writting down the circumstances of the actual thought will give you the best outlook on your patterns. A great weekend to you as well! Danielle ____________________ The DC Support Team

Dear Danielle, You are absolutely right! When I am just thinking about it, you are right. They are still there, but they do not disturb in that huge extension any more so that I would take notice of them. But they are there. They are very very good examples you are giving me here. Yes, exactly, talking to others everytime brings up some negative feelings or thought, even if they are not lasting any more, they are just too short. But I will do as you suggest. Will keep tracking conscientiously. Thank you so much. You really helped me a lot. Best wishes for the weekend! Really thankful. Perth

Hi Perth, That's a great idea! Learning a new language can open up all kinds of doors. Good choice! With regards to your negative thought patterns, you may still have a few throughout the day, they just probably don't stick around in your mind long enough for you to notice them. Try carrying a small pad & pencil with you at all times. As soon as you think negatively about it, write it down. Do this for at least a full day, longer if that is your wish and really pay attention to your inner dialogue and your dialogue with others. Ex: When you notice someone walking down the street what do you say to yourself? After you're done speaking to someone or during the conversation, what are you saying to yourself? What was the conversation about? How did you respond? How did you feel that individual responded to you? Try to be consistent in your record keeping for that full day and you might be suprised to see a few patterns emerge. Hope this helps. Really happy to hear that your meds are helping and that you're feeling better! Danielle _____________________ The DC Support Team

Dear Danielle, Thank you so much for not giving me up. I now have a goal!! I will sign in a french-course. This will give me both, the opportunity to go out of the house, and finally to understand my neighours!! Long time ago I have already decided to learn french, it just became less important as I got more depressed... but now, this is the chance to do it. Also, I have new medications. It seems to me, like everything has changed... Now I am in session 4 where it's finally getting interesting with finding out, concretely which overgeneralization I "use", which mistakes in mind and thinking do I have... but... now, with the new meds I suddenly just feel better. I do not have too many or too desperated negative thoughts any more and do not feel down ... so I can not "analyze" myself. What can I do now? Just wait for any bad times? Or forget about the mood changes? And what if they come later again when I quit the meds? Do you have any suggestion for me how I could proceed from here? Thank you very much in advance Perth

Perth, Glad to hear you're going to give it a whirl. Starting out with a club that only meets once a week may make it easier for you to maintain this change. Have fun! Danielle ____________________ The DC Support Team

Dear Danielle, Thanks very much - I will try this. However, I feel very tired each time I come home from work ... maybe on weekends I might be able to join a club or so. thank you very much and best wishes, Perth

Perth, Why don't you couple networking/socializing with a pleasant activity? Joining a class or a club gives you a great opportunity to make new friends as you already have something to talk about... you're common interest. NullPointer, Just as Casey mentionned, don't get discouraged. Why don't you try coupling it with an activity? Your bedtime routine maybe? You could work on it for 20 minutes before bed? Or you could put a post-it in the mirror? the fridge? Hope this helps. Any other questions? Danielle _____________________ The DC Support Team

Hi, Please don't get discouraged with the homework sessions. For best results, work slowly through at your own pace. Feel free to review the steps at any time if you feel you need more time. Remember, start small and slowly work up to bigger goals. Like learning any new skill it’ll take some time and effort before you feel comfortable and confident about your ability to do the task. Just do the best you can. Casey ____________________________ The DC Support Team

Danielle, I have stopped doing my homework. Today is the 4th day not doing it after I did it 3 days in a row. I just can't do it on the weekend and then I forgot about it yesterday and today. I think I might have to quit.
