Junglephone, Wellbutrin did nothing for me either. Effexor on the other hand, has been a big help to me. You may want to consider trying it. Good luck to you.

Hello...I'm new here, but this topic is my life. I have been in a MDD for more than 3.5 years now and it has been so brutal. My depression has been treatment resistant (tried 20 plus different meds and a course of 7 ECT treatments...all to no avail). I have been seeing my pdoc twice a week for therapy...that has helped me survive. About three weeks ago I bought one of those S.A.D. Lightboxes...and have been sitting under it for 1/2 hr a day before 9am in the morning. For the first time in 3.5 year I feel hopeful. While I am cycling up and down like crazy I have had numerous okay days or at least parts of days. The past 2 weeks have been the best 2 weeks in a long time. I will keep you posted on whether it continues to be the case. ...Aqua

sherrie, Although it is good to exchange information about medication and dosage times, do not make any changes without speaking with your doctor or pharmacist about any changes in your medication. Angela, __________________________________ The Depression Support Center Team

I am interested in how much 5-htp bigmoe is taking and when. Could please let me know? I have been reading Mood Cure and answered a questionare and started taking three 50mg tablets at 2:00pm and the same at 9:00pm. I had bad nightmares the two nights after taking it. I was encouraged though, my sadness was lightened and my cravings for sweets has lessened and I don't feel irritated as often as well as other things that I am not sure about. At least I don't feel "medicated" which is a foggy feeling at times for me. The meds can make it hard for me to do my job and I am always afraid I will make mistakes because of it. At this time I am taking one 50mg 5-htp twice a day.

Some thoughts. Ive been on Provigil and Neurontin which have given me a lift but still dealing with Anxiety. Talk therapy is the best in my opinion. I agree. I think the drugs do little help. I am an avid weight trainer and exercise is a great way to deal with depression and anxiety. I have been dealing with them both. "Anxiety can create depression" and also "depression can create anxiety". Understanding who and why you are the way you are is the best treatment. This is thru a therapist. My wife has been in depression for 2 years and on Zoloft and Lexapro. It has made little impact and she's realized that now. Do the things that make you happy and explore them. Exercise, new job, music, yoga, etc.... go try some and focus on those positive things. No drug can cure your illness!!!

big moe, maybe you should try weight lifting , it does me good knowing that all those people who have bad-mouthed me over the years and all the frustration of a sturggling high school student. And know that you are bettering yourself. If you want to start alone, that may be best if you have social anxiety disorder or any of that jazz. No meds required, well maybe Ibprofeun for the aches and pains of building muscle mass. But that's not mind altering if you talke it correctly. Ciao

Hey don't pack it in. I've been in the same boat as you. Up down, up down, with mostly being down for many years now. At this point, I've lost my wife, and my work has suffered. I've tried Zoloft, Prozac, SAM-e, and now I'm trying 5-htp. At this point, I would try anything if I thought it would help. But, the main thing is to keep going forward. If you have any info on non-prescription drug therapies, please pass it on. Thanks.

Hello all, I've been through two dosage levels of Lexapro and I'm into my second of Wellbutrin XL (300mg) and nothing is working. I am also in therapy and that does me no good either. I'm trying to do the right thing and stick with treatment but sometimes I feel like I want to just pack it in. Sometimes I can't help feeling like it's all a bunch of **** and the so-called 'experts' have no idea what they're doing. I love my family and I'm working really hard to get healthy for them and me but sometimes I think they'd just be better off without me since I can't seem to get better. Just had to vent. Thanks.
