Star: When you go to your doctor bring a copy of the depression test. That's what I did. Every time I told myself I would talk to my doctor I'd make an appointment and then talk about everything but my depression. Take the test. Be honest. Print it out put it in your purse and give it to the doctor. Write down the reactions you are having with the meds. Give that to your doctor as well. I was suprised how sympathetic(sp) she was. She gave me something to calm me down until I could talk w/a shrink. I'm on a different set of meds now and in therapy. Unless the people closest to you have experienced depression & self mutilation, they will have little understanding of what you're dealing with. Also, use this site. I have found tremendous help and friends on this site. I am able to fully express myself and no one thinks I'm dramatic. Please let us know how your appointment goes.

Starr, If you are having a tough time expressing your feeling or concerns, then write them down. Put down everything you wish to speak about and hand it to your doctor. This will make the transition easier for you. If the doctor knows what you are feeling, then he/she can assist you better. Hope this helps, Josie __________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team.

Starr, Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. You will find many tols and references that may be useful to you. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find our Depression Test. This test is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. This may better assess the situation. You do need to tell your doctor and pharmacist that the medication is not working and what side effects you are enduring. Are you currently with a therapist? This may also assist you in sorting out your feelings. If you have any question or concerns with our site or please contact us at support@depressioncenter.net. We are the Support Specialist for The Depression Center and are open to any questions or concerns you may have. Please post often , we are here to help and listen. Star; the help I can give you is to try to see your doctor as soon as possible and tell them the medication is not working. Secondly, it sounds as if you have already been in counselling if you were cutting yourself and were able to stop. Did what they told you before help? Did you change medications or doctors since then? Thirdly, I, like you, have wished at various times to just go to sleep and never wake up....you are not alone. But things can get better, so keep your mind on that part! One month on fluoxetine is not going to cure you, in fact, it might have made you worse, so don't put off going back to the doctor as soon as possible. If you can't do that, get someone to take you to a hospital where they specialize in mental health, and talk to someone there about it. They may be able to get you help quicker, and it seems like that's what you may need....what do you think?
