Fear of Dying

Thats great. Im still considering whether or not I should go seek some therapy as well. Never had anxiety in my life until about 6 weeks ago and its been scary because i never knew what all this was about and its been a challenge to stay positive through it all, but I've read consistently that agoraphobia and panic disorder can all be overcome especially with cognitive behavioral therapy? Its been helpful to ask and talk in these forumns and its helpful to know that other people are going through the same thing and that we are all in this together. We will overcome this all in due time and it will be a great life lesson and journey. I have notifications turned on for this thread, so whenever you reply I'll get to see it! :)

Thank you for your response. It's very helpful to know that there is someone else who has had this experience.  Thank you for the suggestions. I am trying to do things to keep myself busy but sometimes my anxiety gets in the road.  I, too, pray a lot.  It is going to take work to redirect my thoughts, to be sure. It's almost like it's obsessive thinking.   I have just found a Christian psychotherapist and will be seeing him on May 10th.  I am also trying to reach out to people for support. At one time, I would not have let people know what I was experiencing; I am still somewhat reluctant to do so, and have high hopes for the psychotherapist.  Blessings and prayers to you.

Death is scary and unpredictable and I know what you mean because at times i struggled with this as well and its hard to just "stop thinking about it" like everyone tells you do. Its just plain hard to do that. From what i have learned on this site( and this site truly is great)and from other reading, the best thing to do is write down your feelings and then question those thoughts. Why are you feeling this way? Why do you think about death? And then come up with ways to distract yourself from those thoughts. I dont enjoy mediating as much as other people, so i do things that keep me busy such as yard work, school work, playing video games that engages your mind in other things. When you begin to have negative thoughts, let those thoughts in for 3 seconds, and then after that think about something happy. Youre getting your brain to redirect  negative thoughts to positive ones. Life has its ups and downs and you will overcome this and will get better if your practice things that will help you. Remember YOU ARE in control of your own mind and thoughts AND YOU control what you want in them. I also am a Christian and praying and knowing God is with me is great as well. Nothing is worth taking your life :) you can do this. having loving people beside you to guide you and help you get through it. help is always great.

Hello.  I have a strong fear of dying.  When I think about dying, my heart pounds and I feel weak and shaky.  Unfortunately, I think about dying quite a lot of the time.  I don't want to think about dying so much.  It is very upsetting.  The irony is that sometimes I wish I was dead so that I didn't think about dying so much and to escape the fear.  I feel like running away but there is nowhere to run to.  How do I overcome this?
