Getting by.

I tried sifting the dirt in the yard, while spading, through a couple of metal screens, and it made the earth so fine! I'm going to have to get some help though, since this is a bigger job than I thought. Maybe I could transplant some plants from the fron yard, but I don't wish to lose my focus.

Five pound bag of onion sets and there are a lot of little ones. We don't need that many onions so we will grow the little ones as green onions in the green house. It is getting crowded in there. I hope to have the whole garden in in five days. Not likely.

It was raining this morning but the cloud looked a bit thin. So I worked in the greenhouse. I only have to spread fennel seed now and it is done. I'm not sure what we are doing this afternoon. Definitely not planting cabbage. It is too hot to put them out. Probably planting onions. Unless I get side tracked. It might be setting out the hibiscus. Depends how hard it is to till between the Lilacs. Depends whether I can stand or need to do something sitting. Right now I need lunch.

I finished the boxes this morning and we planted the squash in them. Four plants in each of four boxes. The plastic covers are sitting there if needed. We also planted two hills of Zucchini. Round ones for stuffing and regular ones. 9 o'clock at night and I'm still outside watering things even though it is supposed to rain. Rain would be nice. If it rains tomorrow we set out Cabbage plants, Cauliflower and Broccoli. 65 plants. And if we still feel good then a bunch of hibiscus between the lilacs close to the fence. If it is raining too hard then we plant Basil in the big green house and Valerian and Stevia.  In a far corner out of the way we will put fennel.
My friend has rain gear so she doesn't mind planting in the rain. Me, I just get wet. I think I have a rain coat somewhere.
I've lost ten pounds in the last week. I'm not skipping meals either.
50 gladiola bulbs are soaking in pans on the deepfreeze. Never a dull moment, but never a spare one either.
You know half of this is because we can grow a lot of the food we eat and store it, besides it is better than you can buy.
But the other half is accomplishment. It feels good. The fruit trees are going to blossom. That is always a pretty sight. In a few days the air will be full of the scent of lilacs. More tulips are opening.
We had fresh asparagus with supper tonight. The little greenhouse has radishes and a half a dozen different kinds of lettuce. This may be our way of getting by, but it is also reducing stress. The work is worth it. Tomorrow I think we deserve ice cream as a treat.
Getting black in the sky so it just might rain.

Cup of tea and off to bed feeling good and feeling alive.

It is raining, and I need it but I am cold now. We planted 75 strawberry plants in the rain. Earlier today before it rained a neighbour came over and dug up raspberry suckers. Jim was probably planting them in the rain too. He also pulled out a lot of dead canes that needed to be removed. Which I appreciated. Only a slight chance of rain tomorrow so it would be nice to set out the squash. In the boxes that still are not finished. Sunday is supposed to be more rain so it would be nice to get out the Cabbage, Broccoli and Cauliflower. Hell it would be nice to plant the whole garden, but that won't happen.
It is a big garden and we work slow because that is all we can do. Earlier today I mixed peat moss into a planter. (hopper on my grain roller) In preparation to plant flowers in it. I have fifty Gladiolas to plant in the dirt filled manure spreader and some marigolds and petunias. More petunias go in the flower bed by the deck. Everything survived including both roses and the lavender.

Hollyhocks were a surprise. even though they flowered last year and should be dead they are coming up again. Mushrooms are coming up in the little greenhouse.

I think I will go to bed early tonight so I can get an early start tomorrow.

First coffee of the day.

I don't know when I became such a workaholic. But it got worse about a year ago. I don't think it is OCD because I can get side tracked like I did yesterday and most days. Not like I was looking for an easier job, but I think I was looking for the most done in the least time. Which it wasn't. Mild anxiety is still there and will be till the garden is planted and everything out of the greenhouse that comes out. I have to keep looking at the date to realize it is too early for some stuff.
Today it is overcast and would be a good day to put out cabbage plants but they need a few days and of course I don't have the sprinkler hooked up yet. Side tracked yesterday.
Today is what I consider a beautiful day, no good for plants but good for me to work in. My side track for the day which I am trying to avoid but keeping as a goal is to till the area the blue berries got planted in. See, I decided I want to move the goose berry bush to that area also. Of course while I have the tiller out I will want to make spots for the hibiscus and it will snowball and I won't get done what was planned. "sigh" That is life.

See Hugs, I'm not that organized. Well it all gets done, just not always in the right order.

My friend is doing what she can (like me she is on a disability pension because well, we are disabled, if we weren't we would still be working). Difference is my day is ten to twelve hours and I get a measly pension for it. Because I have a garden I don't qualify for home support. No help there.
Don't get old if you can help it. There is no help or support. This is why we are sharing a house and chores and bills. It keeps us out of the old folks home.

That coffee was good and it looks like the sun is going to push through so I'm going to finish mowing the piece I'm doing and then have breakfast. All part of "getting by". Good thing I like my job since it is the only one I qualify for.

Ps. It would be nice to be a cat for a while, one is sleeping and the other is reeking havoc on the mice. Not a care in the world.

I got side tracked and mowed dandelions instead, but I did get a start on the boxes.
There was some anxiety today when I looked at all there is to do. It will get done. I'm not behind but the nice weather makes me feel that way. Late supper and I'm going back out to mow more lawn. It is getting pretty thick.

It is good having someone to help with the two person jobs. Like today she directed to line up the loader bucket so we could mount it back on the tractor. Pretty hard to do that alone. Not impossible, just hard. But little things like that take time so time saved is worth it.

So another long day but it is worth it. What else am I going to do, waste time on the computer. That doesn't grow food. I'm only here because I'm having a cup of tea.

6:00 am and it is time to get up and get a coffee and start the day. The plan is to mount a sprinkler and build boxes for the squash to keep the wind off them for a couple of days. Protection too incase we get frost.
Overcast but there is some blue sky.

I discovered I can build raised beds with a tractor. That has saved me a few days of work. I can start planting now. There are around four hundred plants and flowers started in pots and cell packs that need to go out. The other half of the garden is all from seeds and sets. One sprinkler to mount to the fence tomorrow too.

Hugs some of these plants were started six weeks ago.

Hi Davit, I see how you're organized, with a greenhouse before they're in the actually ground...
