Big time anxiety today at work

Cardio Tech.
This is similar to an exposure I had to do and you can not believe the relief that came after. Because I did it.

When I applied for a disability pension it was stalled and I went back to work when my savings were gone and I had four thousand on my Visa. It wasn't much of a job and it was physically hard  but I had no choice. But since I went to work I no longer qualified even though I did by their standards. It took four Doctors and a year and one hell of a lot of pain killers but I finally got recognized. In the mean time I did some damage which I'm slowly repairing. But the relief when it was over was phenomenal. It showed me that I could do anything if I put my mind to it. It also surprised me. I still have the coping skills I developed and some times need but for the most part I am fine. (recovered)

My point is that I know you are stronger than you think and I know you will find a way to get through this and come out the other end better than you are now for proving it. Never give in, never let it win.
And Vincenza is right you can focus on a few good things starting with the fact that when this is over you will have joined the ranks of those of us that have won. A very positive act to smooth the way to continue winning.
There are a number of coping skills and distractions you can use that will not interfere with your performance such as positive mantras to keep you in the right frame of mind. Breathing exercises, Counting as a distraction. Concentrating on what you will do when the day is over, even if you are too tired and wrung out to do them.
And I will not for a minute play down what you are going to go through, it will be tough. All I can say is that I won and so can you. And I will be here counting the days with you. But it will be easier if you can find the time to post, no matter how horrible it seems we are here to share your journey. We are support even if we are silent support. Let us know how it goes, let us share so you are not alone.

Davit.

I think I broke a few rules but it is my opinion and experience so I said it.

Hi Cardiotech, In addition to Davit's advice, I also suggest working on deep breathing techniques to help calm your mind and more importantly take control of your breathing patterns. Rather than looking at the entire 3 weeks ahead of you, try to focus on each day as it comes. What activities do you enjoy doing in the morning? Incorporate this before heading to work - weather it's enjoying a nice cup of coffee, taking a longer shower, listening to music as you get ready for work. This will help bring a smile to your face and help you start your day on a positive note! Vincenza, Health Educator

Thanks for your kind words.

I've had the last 3 days off.  Things have been a bit better.  Not looking forward to the next 2 weeks though.  My main co-worker is on vacation, and thus I'll be working with the part-time/casual employees we have.  While they are competent at the job, they don't know all the normal routines of our department.  Also, all the administrative duties my co-worker usually takes care of will now fall to me.  It will make for a very stressful and busy couple of weeks.  Add to that the fact that I'll only have single days off for the next 3 weeks, many of which are going to be busy, and it's actually going to be a crazy 3 weeks.  I'm already counting the days til August 15th and 16th when I have 2 days off in a row.

I'm certainly having a better day than you. In fact even at my worst when my whole world caves in I don't get close to that anymore. At one time I certainly did. Some how you have to find a way to change your thought patterns so that your job is not such a trigger. The job is not going away but these people are not you, their symptoms are not yours. They could be as you know, but they are not. How can you get that thought established and build on it?
I know that changing thought patterns works because I have done it. Life used to be pure hell. For every thought there is an opposite thought, it is just a matter of thinking the one you want. And yes it is not easy to change and takes lots of repetition to get it ingrained. It is pretty hard to ignore your surroundings and still do your job.

This is so frusturating and I'm feeling very discouraged lately

.  The last couple of days while at work I've had big time anxiety with throat and chest discomfort  I'm not sure if my discomfort causes the anxiety or the anxiety causes the discomfort...or if it's something else completely....but both are super high right now.

The problem is, with my job and our staffing, I can't take time off (or even take a 10 or 15 minute break) to try and calm down.  I'm stuck taking care of other people when I need to take care of myself.

When I feel fine, my anxiety levels are pretty low, but on days like today...I feel like I'm choking, can't breath, and have a weight sitting in the middle of my chest.

I hope everyone else is having a better day than I am.
