Pleasant Activities

That is pleasant positive post which proves you can have good days. If you can carry this memory and thoughts with you on bad days it will reduce their effect. I'll be honest and say at first it won't work very well as the bad feelings and bad thoughts will break through. But it is like building a wall one brick at a time. In the end you have something you can look at and say I did it.
I love to drive my car to the store and to talk to the owners there. But even more I love to drive my tractors. It takes my mind off my cares. Before I had Arthritis this bad I could wander all over my land smelling flowers, picking berries. It was a good way to relax. I went through a period feeling sorry for myself when I couldn't do these things any more and one day I just thought, what is the worst that can happen and realized I was making it worse. There is a way around every situation. A person just has to find them. If stress is making my stomach touchy I take antacids. I know it is only stress but that doesn't change the fact I have a physical reaction. I need a ladder to get on my tractor, but the way I look at it is it is just aids to make life easier.  No longer will I let my arthritis or my panic disorder stop me from enjoying life. If it means pain pills or tears, so be it. I can do this. I will do this. Even if I fail a few times and crumble into a sad mess I will keep trying my best. I'm winning, every day is better and technically I am what is considered cured now which just means the bad days have little effect on me. No more effect than normal people. I'm better than them, I beat something they may never have to experience and I'm not going to look back. Ever.

Hi,Pleasant activities for me are looking online at this support group to get the focus off of my "stinkin thinkin" reading that others suffer too,but there are good days. When my apartment neighbors are quiet and I can read a good book,or take a walk around the beautiful complex, drive my good running, cute car to fun places that I enjoy, like the library, clothes shopping, etc.and enjoy seeing the sun shining through my dining room window and sitting in the sun for a short time, listening to talk radio to learn new things and laugh at their funny jokes. Thank you. I needed this. maggee

Thanks Red, yes I have spoken to the Dr about this. She suggested Mintec, which was terrible, it repeated on me all day. I need to look up a natural alternative.
All the best with quilting - a beautiful skill to have with lifelong outcomes. my Mum made me one I treasure it dearly.
Take care!

Kama,
Thanks for asking. I am thinking about working on a project again that I started at this same time last year.
Lots of things have happened since then and I have had a hard time getting back to it. Quilting takes a lot of focus..Which is a good thing really it gives my mind something positive to focus on..Now all I need to do is relax enough to concentrate on it again..Also as for the problem your have with getting out and walking. Once I get a gastric upset under control and can go out and walk I make sure I walk somewhere that has lots of restrooms available just in case I need one. My Gastric doctor gave me a medication that I can take in a emergency situation that stops the over active bowel contractions. It is not something one would want to take every day or else you could get the opposite problem..I have Mira Lax that I can take if that happens..You may want to speak to a doctor about this..

I used to have severe Agoraphobia. To the point that even with Ativan I still had to pick my moments to do anything.
If some one came to my place I'd have to pop another and sit down before I fell down. And I was so sad after. "why, why, why" I was never like this. Anxious yes but not like this. I'm single so there is no one to do for me. I have to. And there is where the problem started. The less I did the more I had too. and the more it bothered me. Agoraphobia is more than a fear of open spaces. It is a fear of not having control. When we leave the house there are a lot of things happening around us that we don't have control of. Normally we wouldn't even see them. but now we do and we exaggerate them till they are bigger than they really are. Is your stomach in a knot reading this? Is it because this is triggering Agoraphobic thoughts? It only seems that way, but really what it is, is that you have to read this. But what if you could take back control. What if you could have some say. What if your fear could stop ruling you. What if you could see everything around you as it is not as you fear it. "have to" is negative and gives control to the situation. "want to" gives control to you. Now this is a little hard to do because even while doing it you will still try to use "have to". You need to make a little mantra based on "want to". You want to leave the house, not have to. So you start by saying "I want to go for a walk" and keep adding forms of "want to" to your mantra to keep the control with you. Short and often attempts are better than long and depressing. Stop when  you start thinking you have to and work on getting "want to" in place.
You can use forms of want to for any situation. When you feel okay with this then add in other positives. Like when you can be in a crowd because you "want to" pick out something positive to keep the control. Look for positive thoughts, Like say, that lady has a pretty dress, or that mans shoes are funny. Any of these positives keep the control with you and the panic away. It takes time to build up to this and if you want I can explain why this works but would prefer to save that till you have tried it first. In time you don't need to do it consciously. The fear just disappears because in your mind you know you have control and nothing to fear.

One lady used this so she could drive over bridges, it took her three weeks but it worked. Now she can go anywhere and enjoy the view off a bridge rather than fear it. Once in a while she still has to say "i want to" as do I but seldom.

Yes please Davit!
Red, that is great you have that to look forward to! And what a talent- to be able to sew. Do you have any projects in mind?
Gailerina, wow they're very exciting things to do; visit an aquarium and walk through a light display (I'm not sure I know what one of those is!?!?) ENJOY!!!

Ah Red it sounds like a very good bit of "me" time and I think it qualifies. Or it should.

Not to change the subject or take away from anyone else here but I wanted to share a bit here today.
I am daydreaming about spending a little time relaxing in my sewing room today.
Does this count as a pleasant activity even if I don't actually get into my sewing room today.

I am enjoying the thinking and planning process!

Red.
