Hi Shari,
So much eye candy comes from your avatars.  I'm a little under the weather, and hope to rise above it tomorrow.

Ashley,
I just salivate when I see the online courses that websites like "Courser.org", the network of universities offering free courses update weekly with their gifted teachers!  My issue with getting a hobby is that it has to be related to caregiving and my chores, since I just have so little time.

I will go to see a flower show this weekend, and that is hard to do since I need to work out, and usually only allow myself one outing daily.

Hi Ashley!

I took a photo of my collection so far - good grief - I have 29 dogs and one coming in the mail from Alaska!  It's amazing how they get around the country.  I started my hobby one month ago.  My friend in Ontario has 150 ceramic dogs!  I'm well on my way to catching up with her :-)  It's a good thing they are small, so I have room for them.  I have shelf space in my bedroom when the desk cabinet fills up.  I'll start posting pictures of my weekly finds like I did before.  I forgot to say have a great day and a great weekend too!  Thanks!

Oh wow, I never knew Toronto was so highly thought of! I prefer the country over the city but Toronto does have a lot of green space and the lake so that's nice.

Your sunny on the inside comment made me smile, I'm still smiling. Keep enjoying. Post pictures of your new finds too!

P.S.  About collecting ceramic dogs.  The thing that amazes me is how they came from Japan on a boat 72 - 92 years ago and have somehow ended up in my glass desk cabinet.  If they could talk and tell of their travels.  They are in mint condition and each is individually hand painted and unique, one of a kind.  I just like that they aren't cookie cutter copies that you find today. I've always loved history and now part of history is in my living room.  It's really neat!

Thanks Ashley!

I've heard lovely things about Toronto and I will go visit one day :-)  I also have a dear friend in Ontario that I'd like to visit one day also.  You all are only a 10 hour drive straight north from my house; closer than my parents in Florida :-)  My cousin, who used to live in London, England (now he lives in Wales) has traveled the world.  I asked him if he could live anywhere in the world, where would he live and he said Toronto!  It's very old European looking, I've heard, and sounds lovely.  It's chilly here today in Southern Maryland as well, it's in the mid 50's Fahrenheit and windy, cloudy, and rainy.  It's okay, though, I'm sunny on the inside :-)  I smile that my daughter is a world traveler, or soon will be.  My travels, other than wanting to go to Canada, are visiting other countries via Epcot in Disney World - ha ha ha.

Thanks for sharing Shari. Reading how happy you are now makes me smile. I want to hunt for ceremic dogs too!

It's a little chilly in Toronto today it was nicer a few days ago. I am glad she is enjoying it here!  Hey, maybe I will see her walking down the street? I wonder if I would know it was her?

Anyways, enjoy your day and weekend!

Hi There Ashley!

A friend of mine got me into the perfect hobby for me.  I collect ceramic dogs from Asia from post Pearl Harbor to Pre WWII and Mid Century pieces.  It's a treasure hunt every weekend!  I also go to the Etsy shops and see what's available during the week.  I have a note book and record the date, place, the piece, how much I paid for it and it's current value, along with a computer print out photo.  This is something that engrosses me and it fills my time with something truly enjoyable.  I like to plan the places I will look next and my husband goes with me and we go out for coffee too.  He looks for coins, but keeps an eye out for dogs for me.  I used to rescue real dogs, so this is a way for me to enjoy having as many dogs as I like without Vet bills.  I plan to do this for a long time.  It keeps me happily busy.  My daughter is moving on Aug. 1st.  She's deciding between moving to Canada and getting a dual citizenship, or moving to NYC or CA.  She's in Toronto this weekend.  She's been to Ontario and said she feels more at home in Canada than she does in the States.  She also wants to go to Europe and visit Russia. I'm not sure when she'll do that, maybe for vacations.  So, I am happy and excited for her. I'm over empty nest syndrome and I'm used to her being grown and on her own and I am finding other things to focus on.  I love her and still think of her, but I also have other interests that occupy my time and when I do think of her I smile and I'm proud of her.  I don't know if it would be considered a hobby to go for massages, but I do that on a regular basis too.  I sleep well, haven't had any anxiety, and I'm just enjoying my life and enjoying the journey.  And, as I find things that make me happy, I do them, and I have a good life and I'm thankful.  I think hobbies add joy and something interesting to do.  So, I highly recommend trying things until you find something you enjoy.

Great thread Ashley!

Need something to distract you?
Need something to keep you occupied?
Need to curb your boredom?
Need to give yourself something different?
Need to give yourself a break?

How about a hobby?

What do you like to do most?  Have you ever wanted to take up a sport or craft?

This is the time to really check into your options.  Take the weekend to do some research and once again make it about you.  Find the right time, activity or enjoyment level for you as an individual.

Any exercise can be a beneficial and rewarding hobby, but don’t limit yourself, join a team, have a card night and tournaments.  It is all about the fun factor and how much you can have!
