I'm on day number 10 and I do promise to have a smoke free weekend.Weekends are slow for me at work. Since I work a week on and a week off. I'll be getting ready for my trip home on Monday.I've been doing this for some time and there are alot of triggers involved with the change, drive, and weekend. After this smoke free weekend I look forward to a smoke free drive home!! There is always something to look forward to if not smoking.

Windy, I'm with you on this one too! I have been told over and over to be thankful for what I have and not complain about what could have been. That is a hard lesson to learn, when you are giving up things you think you need to be happy (cigarettes, men, material things) We never want to loose anything, WRONG``It is great to loose some things. Like that nasty smell of cigarettes, that nasty cough in the morning, that negative put down by someone who is supposed to love you,all the things that you hear that make you think you can't be strong enough to beat an addiction or get away from the things that started the addiction to begin with.I had a lot to loose and most of it has turned out to a gain. Freedom from smoking ,extra money, don't listen to put downs or negative comments. BOY,DID I EVER USE THIS SPACE TO VENT!!!

Hey, I kinda like the thought of the ring for the nails. Don't know if I will have saved enough for it by time for my next reward. Until then I feel like I am rewarding myself every time I step outside and take a long deep breath of fresh air. It does feel good to not be a smoker!!!

Shutterbug, I'm on my 10th day and I do believe it's getting better.
I find the down time is the hardest because that is when I used to smoke. Now I just get on this site and see that others are having it as bad, worse and better than me. We are all in this together, we all want to be FREE. NOPE, NOPE,NOPE. Stay strong ((hugs))

Hey Bold,
You are starting with the right attitude. I'm New here too. I smoked many more years than you and wish I could have stopped sooner.
You are making a good choice. You will find lotz of support here and you should use the boards often. It will take you mind away form the craving if you just use it. Good Luck, Look forward to seeing you each day!! Blue Cloud

Hi Pell, welcome to SSC. I hope you find this site as helpful as I have :)
I too got a tight chest and sore throat but it went away about 8 days into the quit. I have only felt better since then. I'm alot older than you and smoked along time. I had a pretty nasty cough and just felt bad all the time. Short breathed and broncitis. I have way more to gain from not smoking than I ever did from smoking and so do you.
I'm only 11 days into this quit and my longest quit before was 31 days. I just know I'm going to make it because I really don't want to be a smoker. Tired of the ball and chain and smelling like an ash tray.
I use the board to replace smoking. All the people who have signed in after me get to here my story because I really dont want to smoke and I just type through the crave. You can too!!!
I'll keep checking in on you and you just read, read, read,
Blue Cloud

Hey Sunflower,
Don't beat yourself up. I did the same thing. I had 31 days and one puff was all it took to put me back to a pack a day habit. It took me well over a year and about three sick spells to finally wake up enough to stop again. Thank God I found this site. I know one puff is all it takes to break a quit and so do you. Maybe we can be of help to others who have that lesson yet to learn. NOPE is the Key for you and me. Feel the Love. Blue Cloud

Blue Cloud here, this did start out as my thread John and thank you so much for the song. I remember it well.
Cheeks we started at the same time and I am sorry to hear you are having a rough morning. Drink lots of juice and stay busy.
Mornings are alwys the toughest for me. The junkie in me is wanting to get his day started but I am hanging in there and not giving in. This quit belongs to me.

Wow!! Another Sunday and I'm still smoke free. The Sun is shining in Texas. It has rained all week so this is a joy to see. My work week is ending and I will be traveling back to Oklahoma in the morning. One more drive trip to beat the demon.I'm looking forward to being home for a week but there are really a lot of triggers there to watch out for. Woooo, I'm looking to far ahead. I better stop and go back to this hour and go from here. I'll jump those barrels when I get to them. This got me through the morning crave. Thanks for listening!!! BLUE CLOUD

To John in NC, My last thread did get hijacked by Cheeks but that is fine we started at the same time and I'm really keeping up with her.
Just wanted you to know I got your song. Thanks, I remember it well and did listen to it again to freshen my memory.
Blue Clouds, Blue Sky, I'll take either as long as they are smoke free.LOL
