Bluecloud, The greatest benefit of not smoking is the new life that I have found. I live in a different world today than I did two years ago. I am in the process of experiencing what it feels like when dreams come true. To go into detail would take a while but just know that life gets better as a non-smoker and that there isn't anything you can't do. Some people spend their lives wishing they were better or somehow different. Others realize they want change and take a chance on making it happen. Having the kind of courage that quitting seems to employ in us gives us the ability to do many things we never thought possible. That is my opinion of what the greatest benefit of the quit is. Hi Lady, Thanks for keeping up with me. I am doing good. I made the trip home without a problem. A friend bought me lunch as a smoke free reward. My daughter sprayed my house with a buttercream vanilla aroma from Pier 1 Imports ( after two weeks we can still smell the smoke)and I have an appointment to get my hair restyled for my two week reward. I do believe those dreams showed me just how it makes you feel to give in to an addiction. I am on day 13 now and the stigma of that being an unlucky day has me on me toes. I just made it through Friday the 13th!!!!!!. I'm sitting in my same favorite chair (where I used to smoke) Thanks again for caring. 745 days THAT IS AWSOME!!!You should be very proud of yourself. What do you think is the greatest benefit of not smoking? Bluecloud Look at you with those double digits!!!!! You're doing great. I think you're right..don't go too far down the future road, just enough to prepare for known triggers. What did u use for coping strategies for the drive to Texas? What else could you use? Hand, mouth Replacements? When I went on a trip about a month into my quit, I printed out a list of self-talk/Things to do when tempted dealie, and used it a few times. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 115 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,600 Amount Saved: $782.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 3 Mins: 6 Seconds: 16

Blue Cloud, you are doing great! Quitting is one hell of a ride. For some reason, different events trigger the desire to smoke in all of us. Going to the mall and Sundays were always tough for me. Why? Who knows! What matters is that you get through those tough times without smoking. Fill your mind with positive thoughts and hang on to them. Thoughts like..."HEY, 11 days! How awesome is that?"!!!!!!!! You are AWESOME! Keep putting one foot in front of the other and stay in the moment. Don't go wandering too far ahead. It isn't healthy at this stage of the quit. Just hang on tight and don't let go! Blue Cloud, In the beginning it is easy to lose sight of, not only your motives and reasons...but a hopeful and fullfilling future. It seems that your life rested on the fact that you smoked to fullfill it. Trust this to be an addicts lie. You don't give up life or anything you do in life. You just give up cigarettes. Nothing more. You can do everything and anything else....just like you always had. Infact....more so as many doors will open to you that you never considered before. You are doing a great job. Keep telling yourself that no matter how long the hall is....your going the whole nine yards. I think a little reward is in order for you. Bluecloud, you're doing just great! :) That first 10 days are very full... dealing with a lot of physical withdrawal, psychological pressures and emotional upheaval... but there are periods of relative calm by that point too. Times when the cravings are relatively muted and you can get a rest from the more severe challenges of quitting. I think the mind can only take so much, and at times it just says, "Enough! I'm taking a break!". At least, that's what happened to me. I'd go through a rough spell and that would be followed by a few hours or even a day of calm and serene sailing. As time goes by... the intense challenges will become the exception and calm will become the norm. It takes time, but it will happen! You ARE doing this, Blue Cloud! You are living the dream, you're becoming free... and all that's required is that you keep your eyes on the prize, and take your life a day at a time. OK, so it's not easy, but it is simple. :) And it WILL get better! In the meanwhile, insist on getting as much out of this day as you can. Enjoy your life, TODAY! Cigarettes have robbed you of enough. Don't let them have anything else!
