I have a dream...

Your question intrigued me, cuz my hubby says he will dream of drinking sometimes, and wake up in a cold sweat at the thought of breaking his 6 years sobriety, so I did a little surfing on the web. I found mostly rambling, but a couple of interesting answers. I didn't save the sites, just copied the relevent bits from a google search "smoking + recurring dreams": 1
In my limited opinion it seems to me that when you have this dream perhaps you are in a social situation where people are smoking. Your subconcious helps you out at night when you are asleep letting you smoke on a dream level because on another level you would really like to light up again. Dreams let us realise the things we can't or wouldn't do in waking life.
2
Almost everyone has experienced one or more dreams that contain anxiety or outright fear. These experiences can be quite traumatic or become recurrent. For some, unpleasant dreams or nightmares repeat in actual content. For others, the content may change while the theme remains the same, such as scenes of falling, or of being pursued or attacked, of being late or unprepared for class, a presentation or an exam. Some people even dream of being stuck in slow motion and unable to move, or of being naked in public, to name a few common themes. Research has shown that most recurring dreams are described as being unpleasant. Furthermore, many dream theories converge in their view that this type of experience is associated with lack of progress by the dreamer to recognize and solve related conflicts in life.
So it looks like ambivalence in our waking hours can cause this type of dream? Maybe. I just thought it was interesting. And looking it up gave me an hour without thinking of smoking, so if it's helpful to you too, that's a bonus. Some place or other, it said you can "direct" your dreams, if you write some question or other down you will dream about it within a week. I don't know about that, but I do know that your relief when you wake up says you really don't want to smoke, and that's maybe the message. Reinforcement of the drive to stay smoke free, no matter the thoughts during waking hours. I'll drink to that! ;) Keep up the great work! 7 months is AWESOME! [B]My Milage:

family problems

Hi Tsikos, I am still awake at 1:30am here in California, looking for something to do to keep my mind off smoking, and here you are! I am so very sorry you and your family are having problems right now. I know how hard it can be when arguing with family and others. But do know that when we quit we do get a little touchy, and I know I tend to take things more serious than I would if I were not quitting. But also, the most important part is to protect your quit, and not let anyone or anything stand in your way. You know that you and your husband will come to the same world eventually, you have that amazing 11 year old daughter you are both proud of, I can tell by your post. Some days are harder than others and there will be days like this, but keep your resolve, you can and will get through this! Here's a big hug for you {{{{{{{tsikos}}}}}}} and do by all means reward yourself for all the progress you have made. Did you ever think you would get this far? So keep going, it can only get better! And your English is perfectly understandable! Do not appologise! I would not last one second in any other language, and you wrote a very touching post. Thank you for sharing. Memories

I am on day 9 and have not gotten past the spacey no concentration walking in circles mumbling incoherently to myself stage yet, so memory improvement sounds quite wonderful... It does get better....

The funny thing about thinking about quitting the quit is that if you did, you'd be MORE miserable! I know that the thoughts come, but remember when you were smoking, all you thought about was quitting? Wel, NOW YOU HAVE!!! You have gone 21 days! That is so AWESOME! It's weird, isn't it, that you can actually have gone 3 weeks without one? But you have!!! Give yourself a reward, you truly deserve a nice manicure, pedicure, a special coffee, an ice cream sundae (ooooh, Baskin Robbins Pistachio Almond with hot fudge + whip cream!), or just a soak in a warm bubble bath..... Hang in there, you are doing great!
