Tweaking relaxation

During the mindfullness based stress reduction course I took last year, the following story was given:  A family doctor who worked very hard had noticed he was having trouble relaxing, he was always looking at his watch all the time, had a short temper, etc.  Even his patients noticed these changes.  The doctor was talking to a friend about this, and the friend told the doctor to find something to remind him to relax.  So, the doctor took green stickers and put it over the face of his watch, on the door to his exam room, in his office, etc.  Whenever the doctor looked at one of these stickers, he would take a few deep breaths and relax his shoulders, and calm himself.  He soon found he was more relaxed, better able to treat his patients, and was overall much happier.

This sounds similar to what you described.

Not really a "success" but....

I suffer from a terrible body image...along with my terrible anxiety.  At my heaviest, I was about 250 lbs....that was June/July 2013.  I was borderline diabetic, so my doctor put me on metformin.  Since October 2013 (and really bad since January 2014) my anxiety has increased 1000%.  However, in that time span, I have lost 95 lbs (was 155 lbs/70.5 kg yesterday).  I'm sure a lot has to do with my anxiety, a lot has to do with the Metformin, and some has to do with eating better (not great but better), eating less, and exercise.

When I see people I haven't seen for a while, they are surprised and tell me I look really good.  However, I don't see it myself.  Yes...I can see I have lost weight (I've had to buy almost a total new wardrobe)...but I still feel like a fat, ugly blob.  I've still got lots of jiggly fat on my butt, legs, hips, stomach and arms.  I'm not sure I'll ever see myself as other people do.  I'd like to lose more weight...or maybe gain muscle/get rid of the jiggly fat.

Anyway...this is just another of the daily struggles I'm dealing with.  If I could just get my anxiety under control, maybe I'd start feeling better about myself and starting to believe what people say.

Thanks.  "Good" thinks are happening (the weight loss)...but some for the wrong reasons (anxiety, not eating from anxiety, etc)

Noise Anxiety

I can't say that I understand...as I have a fan (or something) blowing all the time, especially at night.  I need the white noise in order to sleep (and the louder the better).

Meds, Meds, Meds

So...my anxiety has been through the roof since the first of the month.  I've said before...I get chest pain which sends my anxiety through the roof.  I've had cardiac and GI tests (all normal), yet I still have this pain.  I have it every day, and it can be at any time and last for hours.

Anyway...the pain was really bad for several days, and it pretty much sent me into crisis.

I had weaned off Lyrica at the end of July (on my docs recommendation) as I didn't think it was working...so that left me on Zoloft.   When I realized how bad I was getting (after fighting it for longer than I should) I restarted Lyrica and saw my doc last Friday.  She could also see how bad I was and totally agreed with restarting Lyrica, and increasing it from the dose I was on previously. She also wanted me off work for a bit, but I said no.  I'm on holidays for 2 weeks after tomorrow...so I just needed to get through this week.  My doctor and I decided to start me on 0.5 mg of clonazepam twice a day...just to chill me out and get me through this week.

I've actually felt pretty good this week...anxiety and chest pain wise...but the clonazepam knocks me out.  I feel like a zombie and could sleep all day.  I don't want to be dependent on benzos...so my plan is to wean down/off clonazepam over a couple of days once I'm on holidays.

I'm not worried about withdrawal...I don't think I've been on it long enough to worry about that.  I am worried about regressing and going back to being anxious and having chest pain..

Anyway...hopefully things go well and I have a relaxing 2 weeks away from work. I'm going home (to my hometown).  I have no plans for until the Labour Day long weekend.  I get to look after my fur-niece, Princess Madison.  I hope to go to the trailer and the beach and just do whatever I want...or do absolutely nothing.

continued adrenaline

I find exercise really good for getting rid of the excess adrenaline or agitation when I'm anxious.  Now...I wouldn't recommend exercising at 4:00 am.  However sometimes when I wake up early in the morning before work and can feel myself being a bit anxious or agitated, and I know I wont get back to sleep, I will get up and exercise on my elliptical machine for 45 min, and then, depending on how much time I have, I may do 40 min of yoga.
