March 9th - Sunday's Superb Quitters!

Awwwwww, Mr Ed, you sure know how to sweet talk a filly! But seriously, I'm mighty proud to be on this road with all of you. And I'm sure happy to be 2 months/60 days smoke free today! I hope to get to know more of you in the coming months; I'm not one to lurk quietly on the sidelines, so get used to the YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!s (and probably some psychobabble stuff, too) from me! The first day of the rest of my life....

I've also done more than one quit, but the thing that stands out for me in this, my FINAL QUIT, is that when I DECIDED that I'm NOT going to smoke, it was somehow easier to stop the stinkin thinkin that inevitably creeps in, and it's my positive thoughts and my unshakable decision that makes such a difference. You have that positive attitude, and if the thoughts come, tell yourself "I CHOOSE not to smoke" take a deep breath, and it does indeed go away. It's different when you stop "fighting" it and just let it go. Hope to see more posts from you, Hugs, N2 Psych My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/9/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,200 Amount Saved: $300.00 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 23 Mins: 51 Seconds: 30

Did You Know?

Honestly, I'm not surprised that long time quitters run into a bit of a crave now and then, because it's sort of like going to another country & learning a new language and you do great for a long time, but then something traumatic happens, say a car accident. Or huge stress. You would, just by human nature, begin speaking your native language. You would not even think in the new language. So, the point? Well, smoking is our old language, if you will, and non smoking is the new language. We have to put coping skills in place for those "car accidents" in the future, so that we don't go back to our old language, just because we didn't know what else to do. And I for one do not want to be blind, or have a heart attack, or stroke, or carry around an oxygen tank, so N.O.P.E. is my new language! This sucks every time! Help!!!!!!

You are probably home now, but I want to tell you what a fantastic job you have done by coming here and asking for help. You may not know it, but this struggle will only make you stronger when this sort of thing happens again. You will be able to look back and say, I did this before, I can and will do it again. Use deep breathing, mints, gum, water, ice chips, food, straws, stir sticks, or a friend of mine used unpainted golf tees...and then there's my favorite: GO SHOPPING! The malls are all non smoking now, and you can get anything from a latte to a full outfit, and feel good about it because you are using your saved money Do let us know how you are doing! I am back from my vacation....STILL SMOKE FREE

I laughed out loud when you said you were noting the smoke areas. I can't tell you how many times I have patted the pocket I used to carry those things in, before I get into the car or leave the house, or the office to go down the hall even. Very strange things, habits! And why did we have a habit of where we put our habit? BIG Congratulations on your 95 days, you'll soon be on the beach. So Awesome! Champix users could you answer a question for me!

Hi Wheezer, I don't know how your doctor told you to do the Chantix, but mine said smoke for the 1st 4 days and quit on the 5th, and having had many quit attempts before, I decided to follow directions (this time). The Chantix did nothing to the taste of smoking as far as I could tell, but the withdrawals have been near to nothing and I am not a Tasmanian devil, even 2 months in, which believe me was not an understatement before. And I have not gained 40 pounds for every 2 weeks quit, either, which also is no understatement! I also am concerned for you taking the med so much longer before your quit. I have not seen that technique in any of the research I've done, but I have seen warnings NOT to use any other quit smoking aids WITH Chantix, so you might want to double or triple check with your doctor before starting that regimen. One week today

Hey, I'm here too! Seems like old home week, don't it? Now all we need is for Dragonfly and a couple others to show back up and we're gonna show that Nicodemon where to get off! Big Congrats on your new 7 days, Let's make this our FINAL QUIT, ok? (I was searching for Zippy Giggletoes the other day, but apparently you can't go back more than 365 days!)
