Hi there,
I have decided that the time has come! With new provincial legislation starting in May I am really beginning to feel like a leper. I have smoked for over 30 years and have many reasons for wanting to quit. No that's not true...I really don't want to quit but I know that I need to. I want to live to grow old with my husband and family. My sister died at 57 of lung cancer and yet I still smoke..stupid eh! Unfortunately, I enjoy it so that is where I am going to have trouble and need lots of support...please. I have chosen to make Apr 1 my quit date so that I can work up to it:-) I am thrilled to have an opportunity to visit this site for mutual support.
I am on day 5 no smoking. I am chewing about 3 nicoderm gum/day when the urge is really bad. Several of my coworkers are trying to quit as well but have opted to have 1 or 2 smokes a day to wean off. I am finding the habit of smoking is hardest to break.
Funny...or not...I felt the same way on the weekend, but my daughter told me how proud she is of me and I just have to keep saying NOPE!!! I don't want to go through this 24 days again for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time. This time it really is for good!!!
Nice to be aboard...it is so cold this week in Ontario, I need this cruise. The air is amazing, no smells of smoke:)

I quit on Jan 9 and I am so proud of myself. I have quit many times before and this is the longest I have gone...I am done forever this time. I decided that I would take one step at a time and didn't worry about the weight that I would gain. I found myself in a bit of a slump because I am bored, empty nesting, and suddenly I stepped on the scale last week and ouch...had I gained weight. I have now joined a weight loss program and I am totally focused on getting the weight off. I don't have time to think about smoking and I am not bored as I am too busy planning what I can eat:)I think that I didn't succeed in the past with quitting smoking because I tried to diet and quit smoking at the same time. This seems to be working better for me. 1 step at a time...smoking gone, weight gone, then I will enjoy the exercise:) Here's to living a long healthy life!
