I started smoking at age 48 (I know seems crazy) now 7 years later I have vowed to quit starting tomorrow. I will be using a patch. Any advise will be gratefully accepted.
This is Bean and I'm on my first day but I would like to be an Ash Kickin Knight as well - I find the support here awesome - right now I'm bored as "h" and this site is keeping me busy and away from going for a puff.

I think I am eligable to join this elite club - today is day one for me and I'm still hanging in there, started on the patch this morning - smoked up a storm last night getting rid of the last pack. My hardest part is not meeting up with my pals for a smoke break from work. Reading all the posts is helping keep up my spirits.

Thanks for all the feedback - so far not going to badly - the patch I'm on is only supposed to be worn for 16 hours - taken off at night and new one in the morning - I had heard about the bad dreams. Funny thing this morning - slathered on the body lotion - then realized I had no place to put the patch - note to self - patch before lotion.
Why did I start? Relocated to Ontario from BC to a new job - most of my coworkers were smokers and a lot of work got done over smoke breaks - so I just joined in.
That seems to be the hardest part - not going down for smoke breaks.
Again thanks for the welcome and the suggestions / Bean
Thanks for all the responses - you are right checking in and reading all the posts really helps - now into day 2 - last night was tough - I usually have a glass of wine, watch the tube and puff. Well 2 out of 3 isn't bad (wine and tube).
Question about the patch - it says at this stage to wear the 14mg for 8 weeks - then go down to the next level - is that the right amount of time?

It was really touching to read your story. I know some will say you were crazy to start up again especially when faced with the evidence of what smoking can do. I was crazy in that I never started until late in life - what was I thinking. This is my first attempt at quitting and I'm using a patch - so far it seems to be working well for me - I haven't had any cravings - might be something you could check on with your Doc. Hang in there and come to this site when you feel the craving - there are lots of inspirational stories........Good Luck
