HI everyone!!

Sarah, try to remember that the withdrawal symptoms, awful as they can be, are a POSITIVE thing. They are a sign that your body is beginning the healing process. The first few days are the worst, and you will feel significantly better by the weekend. Good luck to you! More than a slip..a total fall

Irish, don't kick yourself so hard! It isn't unusual for people to slip early in the quit, and some even fall after a long quit. It just shows how difficult it is. The best thing is to set your quit date and begin seriously planning your quit. Think about what caused you to slip and how you would handle the same situation next time it happens. You can do this! Care and Maintenance

Unhooked said it very well! You stay a non-smoker by not smoking. It simply can't be an option. You can't keep cigarettes, ashtrays, or lighters "just in case" you might really need them one day, because if you even think this way, you will definitely find a need for them before long. It happened to me after a full one year quit. For the entire year I thought about those cigarettes I had stashed away. Had they not been there, I don't think I would have taken the trouble to buy them, and I would have stayed quit. This quit I cleared out any trace of smoking, and I tell myself that I do not smoke whenever I think about it. It is definitely a mindset. I Think I Can ,I Think I Can

Blue Cloud, your approach to quitting is perfect, and it is working beautifully for you! I really believe that focusing on the positives is the only way to push through this process. Congratulations to you, and I know you are enjoying the rewards you are reaping! I Think I Can ,I Think I Can

Blue Cloud, thank you for liking the quilt. It is sort of a symbol of my quit. I started making it when I quit smoking in April in anticipation of our first grandchild's arrival in late June. It served to keep my hands busy and to keep my mind generating creative and positive thoughts. The photo shows only about a sixth of the whole quilt, but it is enough to remind me of my reason for quitting. Our precious grandson arrived as expected, and the quilt is now hanging on the wall over his crib. Funny thing--without an ashtray next to me, the sewing went much faster than usual! Not only that, but the quilt actually smelled fresh and clean when it was finished :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 124 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,960 Amount Saved: $744.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 3 Mins: 57 Seconds: 16

talk about a bad time to quit...

Rusty said it! Besides, you have 14 days down--the absolutely WORST part of a quit. With hell and heck weeks out of the way and still fresh in your mind, you certainly wouldn't want to have to repeat them. Take a deep breath, tell yourself you DO NOT SMOKE, drink a long, slow glass of ice water, and face your problems head on. Take some time out now to plan how you will address any craves as they come. You can do it--you have been doing it for two weeks--and if you need some moral support, you know where to come. I promise you it will get easier. La Bistro

I am embarrassed and humiliated to have to tell you this, but I suspect you will all understand. My children both live in other cities, and whenever we would visit them in the past I would insist that we stay at a hotel (so that I could smoke freely in a smoking room). Now we can stay at their non-smoking homes! We had a little reunion last month to welcome our daughter's new baby, and it was so special to all be together under the same roof. It was one of the best family visits we have had, and it is sad to think of all the opportunities I missed in the past because of my smoking. Togetherness certainly is a terrific motivator for not smoking!!
