APRIL quitters !

Lolo, I'm sorry you are back to start, but I am glad that you have not given up quitting. I read somewhere that the average number of quits for a person before it happens for good is 7, and if it takes 2 or 14, as long as you are learning something each time and coming back to try again, you are ahead of the game. You can do it, and you can still count yourself as an April Ashkicker, and you can know that we are all with you. You will make it this time--and call upon us to help! Couch Potatos Unite! A couch potato's workout thread!

Well, my stepped up exercise and calorie counting routine is finally paying off! I had gained 4 pounds, and my husband and I started a walking routine one week ago. At first we added a mile or two each day to our walk, and we are now walking 4-5 miles a day. We walk in the early morning while it is cool outside and the air smells clean and fresh, and we stop halfway for a 15 minute break and a bottle of water. I am counting calories with the help of an online calorie and exercise tracker, and I am staying under 2000 calories each day. I would love to drop that to 1500, but I feel hungry even when I know I'm not, so for now the 2000 will just have to do. Anyway, after a week of this, I have finally lost ONE pound, and I'm proud and motivated to do it again next week. Only problem is that the time spent walking really cuts into my day, and I'm falling behind in other things. So today we will take the day off and clean house and mow the lawn instead! Couch Potatos Unite! A couch potato's workout thread!

It really irks me that it took a whole week of work to lose 1 lb, yet the next day I could GAIN two pounds! Hopefully it's just water gain. Can't think of any other reason to have gained 2 pounds overnight. The only difference in routine was a day of house cleaning instead of 2 hours walking. Oh well, we just returned from a 4-mile hilly treck, so we'll see what the scale says tomorrow! :quest: Hope you're feeling better, Angelcapp! Couch Potatos Unite! A couch potato's workout thread!

Lost one of the two pounds I gained after losing one, so I'm back to my starting point again! Walked 6 miles today in 2 hours--first hour somewhat uphill, a 15-minute water break, and 2 hours flat and slightly downhill. Most people don't walk in our neighborhood, and there are no sidewalks, so we have to fight with cars for space on the roads. We are even becoming neighborhood "characters", and people now wave to us as they speed by in their cars. We have been told that we make great conversational topics at neighborhood cocktail parties--people compare when and where they have seen us walking! Thank goodness for summer! We are even able to eat better with warm weather, as we fire up the grill and cook seafood, chicken, or steaks to have with fresh vegies. We will have to find some good alternatives for foods and exercise come winter, so I hope my metabolism speeds up before then so I don't have to buy a treadmill! Happy reductions to all of you smoke-free couch potatoes :) Karen My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,305 Amount Saved: $192 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 6 Mins: 9 Seconds: 21

APRIL quitters !

Sistermt, welcome to the April Ashkickers! We are delighted to have you with us. The first day is hard, but you can make it! And after you finish today successfully, day two will be even easier. It has helped me to drink gallons of ice water, practice deep breathing exercises, take long walks, and treat myself to a piece of hard candy when hit by a particularly strong crave. People at this site are very helpful, so you will want to read lots of the discussions. There is a great deal of helpful information here. You will also find that many quitters are also using Chantix. It is hard to quit with a smoking spouse, but you CAN do it, and you will be all the stronger for facing that additional challenge. You made an excellent decision to quit, and we are all here to help you see it through. APRIL quitters !

Jean, you are looking great, too! See if you can embrace that foggy feeling for what it really is--your body healing and recovering from nicotine. Give yourself a few days to get over it, and then you will be in really fabulous shape! I stopped using the patch after 4 days, dropping from the 21 to 0, and I was glad I did. I think we all fear the dreaded "cold turkey", but my experience (twice, I'm afraid), is that it isn't really that much worse than using an aid. Best of all, once the withdrawal is done and the system is clear, you won't have to go through it again to adjust to getting off the aids. Just stay strong, and you will come through this with flying colors!
