Peanut, Welcome. I'm doing it cold turkey too. I want to remember the withdrawl and all the ugly symptoms so I won't want to go through it again.
This is a great site.

Maria, you're doing great. You almost have a week under your belt. It sounds like you are a teacher and if so, bless you! I admire teachers. I love kids but couldn't do it.
I'm on day 5 and my weekend was rough. My mood really stank and I was extremely cranky. However, the bright moments felt brighter than usual, as brief as they were. The freedom from the stogies is very satisfying. I know the uglies will pass.
I'm doing lots of reflecting today-9/11. I'm glad I have the chance to quit smoking. Many never got the chance.

Hi Nicky, I certainly can relate to your wanting to turn a new leaf and renew your faith in this often crazy world. I find myself getting more and more negative the older I get and really hate that perspective. I try to give myself a positive self-talk when I start feeling discouraged.
Good luck with your quit date goal. You can do this.

Hi all, this site was recommended to me and I think it is awesome.
I actually quit yesterday afternoon-almost 24 hours ago. This is my 2nd attempt this year. I made it 2 weeks in April so I know I can do this. I have to do it.
It looks like there is tons of support and great information here. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.
:)

Hi Tony,
Yes-the third time IS the charm. Or at least it will be with you right? They say it takes a smoker an average of 7 times to quit. Bummer.
This is my 2nd time this year. I tried a few years ago and managed to stay quit for a few months. I know I can do this. I have to do it. I'm on day three and feel great. I'm going to my 1st yoga class today.
Good luck and it's great you are back here-this time for good right? This site is awesome and there is a ton of wonderful support from lots of great folks.
See you around.:)

Sparky, you're doing great. Congratulations.
I hope you have a great time at the wedding and just remember how socially unacceptable smoking is anymore and you can count yourself among the socially accepted!! Won't that feel good?

Congratulations on 60 days of smoke-free living. You're doing great.
Don't beat yourself up about the weight gain.
I alredy have weight to lose before I decided to quit. Kind of a double wammy! One of the things I did was to join an online program where you record what you eat everyday based on a calorie intake they set for you to lose weight. They have an enormous database of food so it's really easy to plug in your food. I lost 3 lbs. the 1st week I quit smoking. It also gives me something to do with myself when I would normally be smoking. It is a very cool website and allows you to track important health stats like sodium intake, blood pressure, measurements, nutrients and mineral intake, etc. They want you to exercise at least 30 minutes a day too which you record.
Check it out.

Wow, that post was so helpful and insightful Free. Thank you for taking the time to write it. I really needed to read that this am.
I am just terrible at expressing my emotions. I not only use cigarettes to cope with stress but food and alcohol as well. I have a huge oral thing going on. I'm working on all three at once and even thought it's only been a few days, I feel so much "free-er" already. I have started a journal for the 1st time in my adult life and I can't believe how much is pouring out of me. I think it will be very therapeutic.
I think many of us tend to think, dwell and focus on the negative things that are going on in our lives. I know I sure do. My long-term goal is to train my brain to every day learn how to appreciate the positive things and remember all that I have to be thankful for. This involves writing, saying and showing these feelings. I will be a better person for it.
Serenity, your post is so touching too. I think you should write your father a letter. It could be very healing for you. Good luck.
