New!!

Hi Everyone,
I have checked out the forum pages and thought it was time to post something!
So I guess what brought me here is I have alcohol issues and have had them since high school( Im now 24) and am looking for a new venue of support in my journey. I have had ups and downs like everyone with drinking and currently for the past few months I am working on moderation ( 1-2 drinks/sitting and 7/wk) however I have had some slippups usually on the weekends and with a particular friend who I was with this past wednesday and had my purse stolen at a bar because I was too drunk to remember it there. That incident made me realize that I am still struggling and while moderation is my ultimate goal I am not there yet but hope something like this will help me.
I have been slipping up usually every 2-3 weeks on the weekend which involve binge drinking, sometimes loss of memory and as everyone knows behaviour changes and luckily not this year but can involve hooking up with random men that I would not have done otherwise and sober in the same situation.
my goals are:
Achieve and healthily maintain the 1-2 drink/sitting and no more than 7/wk
Make an effort daily to work on my mental health either through journaling or meditation or posting here.
I know I have more but this is a start for this month!
I'm excitied to get to know people on here!

New!!

Hi Ashley!
Thanks, yes I have spoken to my one friend at his house about how I want to get help and that he needs to acknowledge that while he may not have issues with drinking I do and am working on them. I felt like he was not threatened but brushed it off a little, saying that its not a big deal etc etc, perhaps scared to lose a drinking buddy im not sure. We are very close though so I am going to try and talk to him again in person next time I see him. This weekend I went to a dance show with a friend who isnt a big drinker, I think spending more time doing activities out of the house and exercising like dance classes on the weekend will help, also not keeping any alcohol in the house so if I am going to drink I will have to go out for it with someone and be more accountable. I also went to a cinco de mayo party (same friend) after the dance show and told myself I would have 2 drinks then go home and thats what I did! I am feeling strongly about limiting my drinking especially those binge drinks because I just had a bad episode, but just wondering how to maintain that feeling in the next while. Still trying to figure it out!
thanks
Zoe

Friday & Saturday night

Hey guys,
I definately feel the ritual or habit of drinking can be a big part of things and I am also trying to find the best ways to break this. Just thought it was interesting
thanks!

First time self check in when out last night!

Last night I went to a Edward Sharpe concert downtown Toronto with my friend, I bought a bottle of wine so we could have a glass at home before we went. We each had one which was good then went out for dinner where I had a martini. At the concert I had 3 beers, my goal for the night was 4 drinks max which I did go over but I also was checking in with myself after each one before I got another. I asked myself if I was feeling happy or becoming too drunk, I alternated with water at the concert and the last one I told myself I was not feeling as great and needed to stop so I did. I know that 6 was too much and that 4 would have been a better choice bc I stopped enjoying it after that number but it was interesting that I even noticed. Usually after 4 I can't stop myself and don't think about how Im feeling or how I will feel once the next drink kicks in, I guess it's some progress!

Ya I definately will aim for 4 next time and tell myself that after 4 it isn't worth it... also maybe try to time the drinks out across the night and make sure i alternate with a non alcoholic drink! I got invited to a masquerade party Saturday night so maybe I will do it there so I can make it home safely after on the bus too.  I will do that or plan to not drink as my friend who I tend to drink too much with will be there, I wonder if drinking nothing would be better there?

First time self check in when out last night!

Hi Ashley,
Thanks for the advice, Im writing this slightly hungover because I started drinking more wine after my roomate went to bed and I did have in total 7 drinks over the night including supper I feel physically not so good and sad that it has only taken two weeks for me to start reverting back to old habits. Tonight is the party at my friends, I made a mask and bought wine and champagne to share with everyone but the fact i started last night tells me maybe I should not go tonight and do something else like go to a movie.
