Junkie Thinking

I am glad to have found this post and so many other great ones today as I've become familiar with the program and the site. While Forum boards are not as well travelled as in years past, it's nice to see a community still exists here and so much knowledge and help has stayed.

Hello, I?m New Here

Good Morning! I'm glad to have found this program and community to help me with my Quit. I've smoked since I was a teenager and am now 41. It's my time. I've tried quitting a few times but have not been successful. I know all it takes is the one time for it to work so here I am. I spent a lot of yesterday reading through Forum posts and getting familiar with the program. Hope to be in touch. L.

I am Quitting - April 24th

Today is my Quit day! I'm excited...and nervous and a little scared. Although I've been thinking about quitting again (how, when, etc.) for a long time now, it seems today and using this program and support came up suddenly. I was looking in to Laser treatments and what they entail, for information. I also looked through our work EAP and found this program. That was Tuesday. And here I am on Thursday. I feel it's time and I'm ready to be free. I also feel that it will be a struggle and tough at times. I feel that I can take it and I have a plan and support to read through others experience and encouragement. What I know from previous tries is that I need to keep reminding myself for the next few days (+++) is that the only reason I want a cigarette now is because I ever had one - the trap that it is. My body was complete without nicotine and only wants it because I gave it to it. The cycle. Not just the routine but also the addiction. It's time for me to break it and be happy to do so! Thanks for being here. L.

Thanks for the support and encouragement, John! I am ready to battle this demon and get past it. One month from now, I plan to be where you are today :)

Hello, I?m New Here

Thanks again John! Such a simple trick, and yet seems daunting when you're in the throes of it. I can relate to the past 5 months of turmoil you've had - I've been about 2 years of that, the wrestle with myself just to get it done. I get it. I don't see this as something to mourn, although I think I will at certain times in certain ways, but I am trying to get and keep an excited state about it and how much better and empowered I will feel. The feeling that comes across from so many of these posts of Quitters. Happy Quitters - which is what I find so inspiring and want to be me. I know this can be me too and, better yet, I want it to be me. It does seem we're on a similar journey with you a few steps ahead of me. The support and your experience is much appreciated as I take my first, shaky steps. :) L.

I am Quitting - April 24th

Thanks for the welcome and vote of confidence, Tim! It's much appreciated. I am doing this Cold Turkey. Once, which seems a lifetime ago at times, I tried Zyban. It wasn't for me. When I slept, I had the craziest disturbing dreams and I didn't like the way I felt while taking it. It makes me hesitate to try the other drugs and I'm not sure about the gum, etc. I've bought the gum before, but never used it. I do have an e-cig (no nicotine) that I bought over the course of the last year. I haven't found it helpful while still smoking so am hesitant to try and use it as a replacement. I am going to speak to a chiropractor who does laser therapy, only because I've had a lot of success with chiropractic laser therapy for other ailments and am interested. I don't believe that there's going to be a magic button for me, though I wish there was. I believe, as you've suggested, that my biggest help will be keeping a positive attitude and reinforcing positive actions. I've dug up the N.O.P.E. and H.A.L.T.(E.D.) acronyms from my reading last night and jotted a few more things down on a piece of paper folded in my pocket. They've given me some strength today. Also, I've been reading through a lot more of the forums here, they're so helpful. I can do this! Thanks again. :) L.

Hello, I?m New Here

Tim, so true. The mental battle has been my downfall before. Heck, it's been my barrier to even try. But it's a battle I plan to be the winner of. :) L.

Tips for quitting smoking

Tim, this is a very powerful and helpful list. Thank you very much for putting it together - I definitely needed to read it. I hope that soon I may have more to add. L.

I am Quitting - April 24th

Hi Lolly and thanks so much for the warm welcome!

I feel I am pulling out as many stops as I can to get the job done this time, kind of like you explain with "Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!"  I have a couple of plastic fake cigarettes - they have some smokey taste to them but more like BBQ than cigarette smoke - I bought years ago that I am going to dig out, you've reminded me of them.  I like the idea of them for the car better than the nicotine free e-cig, too.

I am  going to keep on the positive state of mind and self talk - I started a bit of a journal last night - and plan to beat the nicodemon down every time it pops up.  My plan this morning was pop some gum in my mouth as soon as I got up and it's working so far.

Thanks for introducing yourself and your vote of confidence, Lolly. Much appreciated!

Hello, I?m New Here

Hi John, I'm hanging in, thanks for checking in. I stocked up on some gum/life savers/carrot sticks/etc to help me through. I started a journal of sorts on paper to write about some of what I feel and think to help understand and recognize weakness and strength. I have given myself permission to go straight to be when I get home after work if that will help. We will see. I also discovered last night that when I post from my phone browser or Microsoft Windows IE browser, I don't get formatting options so I apologize for the big, long, all together post lol. ;). Thanks for checking on me and I hope you're having a good day, ready for the weekend.
