Welcome Triad,

It sounds like you really want to take control of this. It also sounds like stress is a trigger for you. What are some alternative coping skills you can use or begin to try to help with stress? Having a plan to manage stress sounds like it would be a big part of your quit plan.

Hello!

I'm 32, male and have smoked on and off for a few years. Often I'd have one on a whim or maybe with friends at a bar but I'd go months without having one. When I'm not around cigs I don't tend to crave them. I've gone on road trips with friends that are non-smokers and don't feel like I need them.

My dad - who recently passed away - and my stepmother are both smokers. As are my sister and her boyfriend. I live with and take care of my stepmother. Having access to cigs I tend to smoke them. Most days I have one, maybe two. Others I can have a few more, or I may not smoke that day.

I definitely reach for a cig when I'm stressed. While I may not smoke what most may consider the amount to be considered a "smoker," - and can trick myself into thinking I'm not one by appealing to some quantitative number - I know I have a problem and don't feel good or happy after I smoke. Often I get too light headed - which I really don't enjoy. I'd really like to quit cause it's my one real bad vice and I know it's not good for me.

I joined this forum hoping I can find some tools to quit without having to result to taking medication.
