Exactly right.
Positive attitude is the secret ingredient to a successful quit.

Out of every other quit, this is the only one where I immediately felt FREE of smoking.

This time I didn't "give up" smoking, I  "stopped" smoking.

Big difference.

Hang in there... keep going... quits it adds up by the minute.

Good for you.... And that is what really made this Quit diffeent for me..   Coming here, finding positive attitude,

Not looking at it as giving some Up.. But as Taking back, my life, control and money.

I like a lot of the thoughts in Carr's book.

I like turning the negatives into positives...

Know we are here for you.   Keep  the hammer ready for the "nicodemon"  he will kick and scream a bit... but the more you say no... he turns into a little squeeking mouse.

Ron, isn't it funny how Carr's thoughts really stick, really make you think??
The two I kept with me are, "smokers smoke to feel like non-smokers do all the time" and " if you knew for sure the next cigarette you smoke would be the one that gave you lung cancer, would you smoke it?"
Of course 99.9% of us smokers would answer no to the second question, but because we dont know how long the damage will take to show, or,if at all in some cases, then we continue to literally dice with death.
Keep your positivity going Ron, and well done on getting day 1 down and out!!

One down, the rest of my life to go...N.O.P.E.

Not as bad as I expected. I know there will be tough times coming my way, but day one was OK.

I think the difference is psychological. In the past I felt like I was losing my best friend and making some huge sacrifice. This time I recognize that I'm stopping something that is harmful to me for my own good and getting a demon off my back so I can reclaim my life.

I like Carr's example of hitting your thumb with a hammer. No one would ever agonize over having to "give up" smashing their hand with two pounds of steel. Why should anyone fret about not inhaling known carcinogens that are all but guaranteed to kill you at the cost of thousands of dollars.

In quitting I'm not giving up anything whatsoever; I'm just stopping a behavior that is causing me unbelievable harm.

Thanks to everyone for helping me through day one!

R
