Anyone used Chantix?

16 years ago 0 21 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I started off on chantix - took it for two weeks and it made it easier for me to give up. However for the last few days of taking them i saw every hour of the night - so i stopped them and i still don't want to smoke. So the way i see it is the drugs helped me give up and it is up to me now - i'm a none smoker already! It was not worth the not sleeping all night side affect for me to keep taking the drugs.

Lots of good information here! Always be sure to check with your doctor and pharmacist for further knowledge about medications, side effects and dosages :) Josie, Support Specialist

Hi Fivestring, I had the opposite with Chantix. The morning pill would make me really nauseated after 6 weeks and my doc had me cut down to one pill at 3 pm. I don't feel sick anymore and it stretches my prescription longer. I don't feel I need to take it anymore but I'm choosing to stay on it. My doc also feels 6 months has a better success rate so I'll take it as long as my doc tells me. Congrats on 5 weeks!! Hi Fivestring! Congrats on your 5 weeks! That is awesome! Did you see the thread "weaning off Chantix/halving the dosage" in the Common Support forum? It has a lot of good discussion. I'm at 12 weeks quit today! I went to 1 Chantix a day at 8 weeks and now I'm going to try either 1 every other day, or 1/2 of 1 per day. I'm doing great but I'm a little apprehensive to go off of it completely just yet. I too need to have a little food in my stomach when I take it. Keep up the good quit! What Aloha said, take it with Food and early...say 5ish. Always check with your DR also ;) I take this multivitamin now with extra vitamin D, and if I don't take that with food makes me nauseous, drives me nutso. anyway, with chantix, DH and I ate a snack around 5pm with our evening pill, and it truly fixed that. As Josie said, type Chantix in the search bar and read all about us. Thanks to all for the advice and comments. It is always comforting to know that one's reactions have commonality with the experiences of others.

I found chantix extremely helpful, especially at the beginning. I would have the upset stomach like clockwork about 20-minutes after taking it. I dropped down to one a day after about 4 weeks and stopped taking it completely at about 6 weeks, not because of the side-effects, but because I didn't feel as if I needed it anymore. The research says that people who do the full course of treatment have a better chance of staying quit - but each individual is unique. I knew that I was done and that I didn't need it anymore. Only you can determine what will be the best course of action for you. Hi 5String. I bumped up a thread for you called Weaning Off chantix/halfing the dosage. it's in the Common Support Questions forum. Lots of approaches to the chantix issue. it is a bit slow to load, but worth the read. Some people have decreased their evening dose or taken it earlier with dinner to decrease the nausea. Welcome to the site, and good going on the 5 weeks! Fivestring, Welcome aboard and congrats on also working with your doctor to come up with a plan that is right for you. Work with your pharmacist regarding dosages and side effects. 5 weeks is awesome and you should be proud! Do a search through the forum and enter in Chantix, you will find the members advice and knowledge regarding this :) Josie, Health Educator

all i can say, is that on my last attempt at quitting I tried chantix, and had the same experience. Felt nauseous all the time. Had to quit taking it. I didn't try it for long, maybe it would have subsided later on, but looks like you've been taking it for a while. Sorry, I know I'm not much help, but thought it might help to know it's not just you that it makes feel that way.
