Weaning off chantix/Halfing the dosage?

16 years ago 0 1356 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
might be a little of both, but probably the quit. if anything Chantix elevated my mood and prevented me from going insane during the first 3 weeks. It will improve and you will feel so good ;) Sue stopped chantix today!!! I have been taking Chantix for three weeks now and not smoking for two. Recently I have become extremely depressed and moody and at times I feel very disoriented. I can not tell if it is a side effect from the medication or from not smoking and just a normal phase. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am coming up on my 11th week (I think) so plan to stop the Chantix with one week of pills leftover. Would like to save those in the event I experience an extreme craving. I am Sooo looking forward to not taking another Chantix, each time I take it reminds me that I used to smoke. I wish I could forget that I ever smoked. Good job Aloha. I cut down to 1mg about a month ago and take it at lunch time. The craving did increase and intensify for the first few weeks. Soon I will cut it down in half and see what happens. I am just glad I didn't take it for the 6 months and then just stop I think we may see people relapse that way. I am proud of you making 100 days have a great time on the beach. well, 100 days nonsmoking (15.2 weeks of chantix) and I am still taking .5 mg most days. Still having slightly increased urges....both in intensity and frequency, but less than last week and the week before. And no depressive symptoms! That was one of my main worries in stepping down/going off it. Have about 10 days left of .5 mg, then I hope to be done with it. Nice to actually be saving the money rather than spending it on chantix...lol btw, i only ate one creamsicle, but everyone else in the house has been enjoying the treats :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 100 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,000 Amount Saved: $680.00 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 0 Mins: 43 Seconds: 15

Members, It is highly likely that if you are coming off Chantix you will experience an increase in cravings. Some quitters feel it more than others but keep persevering as it will pass once your body adjusts. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Well, I tried going off after tapering down in the second month. I got aggravated and got nervous because that is how I lost my last quit, getting aggravated with my daughter. So I got another months worth, and will see how it goes. I am going to do twice a day, like a good girl for now. Although it may have been just me getting aggravated because my daughter did something to aggravate me, I don't want to loose this quit. Just throwing my experience out there. Hi Guys, I have been taking just one Chantix a day for about a week now and I can say for me I notice a big change in cravings. I think for the last 4 days they have just not gone away for any length of time. I am usually fine all day at work don't even think about smoking but this week has been rough. I don't know if it is lowering the amount of Chantix or a 3 month mark or what. I think this drug is so new that we just have to do it by precess of elimination and see what works for each of us. I think we know more about the drug than the doctors do. Every one keep the quit the craves will pass. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 90 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,800 Amount Saved: $585.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 17 Mins: 26 Seconds: 42

PRB I looked around on the site yesterday for more about the 3 month-100 day crave thing, but couldn't find much. I thought I'd gotten over the "milestone" crave thing, but that is all I can think it is, other than the chantix (which I dont really think it is). What I've figured out for the milestone related urges is to reward msyelf. So, I rewarded myself with fudgsicles, creamsicles and sorbet. A little overboard, but I am an addict type....lol I actually only ate one creamsicle, but wasn't sure when i was in the store what i was going to want, and figured if the craving went on for days I would be prepared. That creamsicle helped, but this morning was the first one in a long time when I thought of a cigarette when I first woke up. Of course I didn't seriously consider it, but I didn't like that my mind went there. On the limbo....I am going to start practicing before I get there. I think the pole is going to have to be pretty high for me :p -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 88 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,520 Amount Saved: $598.40 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 8 Mins: 26 Seconds: 29
