I'm going back to Berlin, Germany!  I attended a Department of Defense American school there while my father was with the Army Security Agency.  That was in the 60's, so I am sure A LOT of things are different there today......

Hi Gang!!!

Now we're going back across "the pond" to a small town of Wellsville in southwestern New York State...  about 12 miles north of the Pennsylvania border, about a hundred miles south of Buffalo, NY.  I was one of the lucky students who was fortunate enough to attend both elementary schools in town, Washington and Brooklyn.  It was a nice little town to grow up in and is a beautiful area to visit (in the summer), but I sure am glad I decided to move south after my stint in the Navy!  I do have great respect for all of you who are living up there in snow country!!! (You bunch of crazies!!!)

The town is nestled in a little river valley in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains where two little rivers converge.  I spent many summer days trout fishing, hunting, or just wandering in the hills as a youngster!  Of course I did all of the winter snow sports and activities you could think of since winter lasts so long up there!!!  Brrrrr!!!!     Ahhh...  the memories!

My wife is also from my home town and we do drive back there for Christmas every year to enjoy the holidays with our relatives!  The trip always serves as a reminder why we both moved south!!!

Where are we off to next????

        Jim

Toledo, Ohio in the 50's...........All my schooling was there and I graduated from Macomber Vocational HS in 61.  All boys school too.......

We spent lots of time at Toledo Beach and at the Toledo "Dance Hall" on Summit Street between Toledo and Detroit.  It was the straightest route to Chicago from Detroit..  Along with many names like Hoffa and Bugsy and a mish-mash of gangsters back then.  I'll take you on the tour and show you the tunnel under Summit St. and the most used routes for fast getaways then.

Keep the Quit

This is an interesting train ride and it's fun to see where everyone went to school!  Breanne, I had relatives in Bowmanville and spent some of my summers across from the Flying Dutchman at my Aunt and Uncles house.  What a small world it is.
My elementary school was Brooke Central and it was brand new the year I started first grade.  It was in the country just outside Alvinston, in Southwestern Ontario.  Our playground was surrounded by cornfields and farms.

Strangely enough, I'm actually preparing to go back to school myself this year.  I hope it's as much fun as first grade was.
